Not that I’ve found through the Bluetooth pairing text feature in Uconnect. You need dictation services offered through CarPlay or Android Auto.

Not sure what year radio you have but the 13 to 17 trucks with the 8.4 RA3/RA4 radio will send voice texts if you have an android phone but will not voice text with the I phone. The 18 and up trucks with the UAS/UAQ radios will not voice text unless you are connected to Apple Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as previously stated. This is one if the reasons I have kept my RA4 in my truck instead of my UAQ. I use the voice texting a lot and it works great with my RA4 and I don't need to be plugged in.

You can send voice texts, you just need to have your Google assistant or Siri configured to do so.

Yes but if your Uconnect 8.4 is factory installed I believe you can unlock voice dictation with a subscription. That's how it used to be on the RA4s. I found the voice recognition on the RA4s is much better than the newer 8.4 radios though. It really sucks on my UAS but using Android Auto cuts the factory interface out of the picture.

So how would all this apply to my 2020 1500 with android phone and the 8.4 touch screen?
Note: I can't find anywhere in my Samsung s10+ that says anything about turning on Android auto.
The canned messages in the 8.4 screen are useless...

Yes, has it already installed Android Auto (AA) for you? If not, go to the play store and install it manually.

If you've already paired your phone via Bluetooth, go to the phone settings menu and their should be some additional check boxes to enable to allow your phone to connect with AA (I don't remember exactly what the settings are called but if I need to get more specific I'll take pictures if you need it).

Once that's checked, you can connect your phone with a USB in the center console and/or jumpseat and the phone icon on the radio should change to AA. Select the icon on screen, then look back to your phone screen and follow the instructions it gives you to complete setup.

I don't know honestly. I feel like it's not a good idea but I would also think the manufacturers would account for this scenario in the cell phone hardware.

It will charge (rapidly) via the USB port so maybe you'll just get in the habit of using it by itself?

If you plug the phone in to the ports that connect to your UAS/UAQ radio, it will charge while it runs Android Auto. Once you have it set up with the cable, you should be able to connect it via Bluetooth...which would allow you to use the wireless charger.

But you will lose almost all of the features of Android Auto when not connected to the USB. True Wireless Android Auto is not supported on these radios yet (if ever).

From everything we have been able to determine the 18 up Ram UAS/UAQ radios will not voice text without being connected to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto even if you have a Uconnect subscription. It's not supported. I guess I'm on the other side but I really didn't like my UAQ and put the RA4 back in. Using Android Auto wasn't worth all the other shortcomings of the UAQ such as sound quality screen issues and other glitches in my 14 plus I listen to music on a SD card and it wouldn't work on my UAQ. I also like being able to voice text without having to be connected to the truck and it works well on the RA4.
