Apple Car Play update for 2016 3500

Has anyone heard if there is a flash update available to install Apple Car Play in my 2016 3500 Dually?

There is no “flash” updates to obtain CarPlay. You need to have a UAS/UAQ Radio in your truck(typically from a 2018 and up) to have CarPlay. Additionally you will most likely need to obtain an updated media hub to get truck to recognize your phone to use CarPlay.

That is correct. It is Not an option with your current radio.

You can however swap to a newer factory radio to get carplay...

So it sounds like the radio from a 2018 will give me carplay if I install the radio snd media hub. Is it a simple direct swap? If I can find a 2018 radio and hub in a junkyard will that work?

For the most part yes. You will also need the Hub harness which can be made by forum member @Mpgrimm2 . For a clean installation you may want to replace some trim pieces to install the hub. Your current setup (center console vs jump seat) dictates your options.

You do have a 8.4" radio currently yes?

Is it a factory installed 8.4 radio in your 2016?

Do you have factory dual Zone ATC?

Do you have a Jumpseat or the center console?

Center console. Can’t post a picture for a few days, Big Red is getting its turbo replaced.

Yes it’s the factory 8.4. We have the Laramie trim package. We ordered the truck with every option except the snow plow.

So you have the Dual Zone with ATC?

If so, you will need the following from the UAQ upgrade thread linked previously (first 5 posts) ....

2018/19 classic Ram UAQ or UAS Radio
2018 Ram or Jeep Compass USB Hub
USB hub adapter harness (from us).
