I bought a ARE cap for my 2019 RAM 1500 as soon as I bought it. No issues except the other day I noticed that the Hi Mount Brake light on the cap turns on not only with the brakes. But it also turns on with the RIGHT turn signal?? Ehh? Manufacturer is less than helpful. The dealer offered to look at it. They are 70 miles away and maybe will go that way at some point.

Any ideas or suggestions on the proper wiring? I can handle "lectric" but have no idea what is wrong or the fix.
Thanks!

Sounds like whoever wired the cap rigged it by tapping into the trailer plug wiring. There should be a designated wire on the harness that is just for the 3rd brake light only. Sometimes its taped up but if you follow the harness to the frame you should find it IIRC.

On my ARE, I used the designated wire under the truck, it's White and purple. If you tap into the rear tail light for the brake light, which ever turn signal you tap into has a tendency to turn the led light on the topper when that signal is used. Ask me how I know. Some kinda of electronic feedback.

It took me about 2 weeks to figure out how the ARE dealer did this and it seems to be more common if you have led tail lights vs the stsndard tsil lights. Due to the number of wires in the housing.

My experience.

To go along with my post above, here's a quick video (not mine) on a '25 of the area to find the wire I spoke of. This is the correct way to do it.

Exactly what these two members have recommended.

If ARE installed it , maybe they are closer to you for them to correct it.

ARE Dealer installed it. And as mentioned they are 70 miles away. And they obviously did it wrong to start with. I will follow the directions here. Thanks
