Aren't these exhaust clamps in the wrong spots?

I'm pretty sure the wide 3" ID to 3" OD clamp belongs on the extension pipe to factory pipe, and the single band clamp belongs on the muffler (Borla Pro XS) to extension pipe since the muffler can clamp tight because of the slits, vs two solid pipes that need that wide clamp to seal properly. I just had the muffler installed this morning, and something seems off. In addition, I told the idiots they had to cut the 18" extension pipe down to 16-17" because the exhaust tips would stick out too far, which they do by a good inch, so they clearly didn't cut it.

I wonder if this is why the systems sounds weird on occasions, possibly an exhaust leak of sorts? Sometimes it sounds good, when flooring it on the freeway, and other times, like when letting off the gas on the freeway, or going at 40mph sometimes I get a weird helicopter like exhaust sound, and it isn't the MDS.

Looks right to me. Isn't the clamp butted up against where the new and old pipe are joined? At least that's how its supposed to be.

The 2 bolt clamp should seat on both pipes. The mistake ive seen is the wrong clamp. They make butt joint and lap joint.wrong one and you get leaks.

Sounds like you had idiots install your muffler.
Personally I hate any type of band clamps but I'm old & stubborn. :)
I'd take it to another shop, have them cut & install it correctly, then weld it in.

When my guys at Meineke did my Flowmaster they welded it in and had me ok the tips locations before finishing ( had two guys holding them in place while another welded)

I hate band clamps. I only ever use the ole standard clamps. Just like I hate FCA hose clamps, and whenever for a reason I replace a hose, I always use a GM style clamp. But we all got opinions. TO the OP, I would put on the OLD STYLE clamps in every location, easy to do of course after U get ne amount U believe U need to cut to shorten ref placement and fitment. All IMHO...........

My pictures suck, it's hard to tell what you're looking at. I'll take new ones later. To me the thin clamp should be at the muffler to extension pipe, and the wider 2 bolt clamp should be at the extension pipe to factory mid pipe side and mine are the other way around, which doesn't make sense to me.

Since the factory mid pipe and extension pipes are both solid, those need the two bolt clamp to seal together, where as the single bolt thin clamp should be on the muffler side since the muffler has slits in it. There is no way that single thin clamp is sealing a solid pipe against another solid pipe.

The reason I didn't want it welded, is so that I have the option of easily reinstalling the factory muffler if I ever decide to do that.

Here is a much better picture of the two clamps I think should be swapped. If I'm wrong let me know so I don't look stupid when I complain about it, but logically to me, those clamps should be swapped around. Two solid pipes joined together should have the wide clamp, and the muffler which is a clamp on style should have the narrow clamp.

What you're saying makes sense to me.
