Just had the heater core replaced in the truck and ever since my headlights are always on when set to auto if the truck is running. They no longer shut off when it's light outside. They turn off just fine when I shut the truck off, or when I switch off the lights.

Before I take it back to the shop I want to check it myself and try to fix it. The shop is more than willing to do it, but they're backed up and I don't have time to leave it there for a week. I know there's a sensor on the dash, but are there any obvious things I can check that doesn't require removing the dash?

My default first-try fix for electrical gremlins is to disconnect the battery for about an hour and while disconnected push every button and turn every dial to discharge any capacitors. Then reconnect the battery and run through a couple cycles of start, drive for 20 minutes, turn off, sit for a hour, then repeat a couple times.

Vehicle computers; they drive me crazy.

If the dash had to come out is it possible the light sensor was disconnected and not reconnected? Around the 9:25 mark in this video shows where that is and how to remove the panel to see if it's connected

That's what I was looking for. Thanks!

I presume that they just left it disconnected or didn't seat the connector all the way because it worked perfectly prior to doing the work. The dash did have to come out. I didn't realize that cover popped out, so I'll take a look.
