changing the seal on the left front differential because of a leak. After removing the seal which came off rather easily, I noticed that little chip on the edge. See pic. U think that’s what was causing leak? How can that be fixed?
I know a way I can try. Just asking how anyone else would do it

Looking at where the nick is it appears to be outside the seal contact area. I would simply make sure it's smooth before putting in the new seal. But if I were really concerned then I would break out the JB weld and more sandpaper. But I'm not. Good luck, hope all works out for you.

Yup, JB weld is what I was gonna use. The metal lip part of the seal sits right over that lil nick. Idk if anyone else has a harder fix. But probably not many ways to smooth it out. Thanks for input

I would not worry at all about that nick ,it’s out of the sealing area.

You will be fine. Notice the dirt ridge ring outside of where the seal was seating, this is good indication that it is well out of seal area and will cause no problem. If it was me also, i would change both seals, you have to drain the diff anyways.
