Hey guys,

2011 1500 sport 4x4,5.7,QC.

I have owned the truck for going on 3 months now and ever since I have had it....at night when you put in in reverse and the back up camera pops up it turns into what I would call "scribble vision" lol. sometimes it last for 30 seconds before it clears up,sometimes it lasts for a minute or 2 minutes before it clears up. either way in most cases I have already backed up and been on my merry way by the time it would have started working correctly.

It does NOT do this during the day. only during the night....for whatever reason.

I am attaching a link to a youtube video I made of the issue so you can all see what I am talking about.

Any ideas what is causing this? Its really annoying!

bump

I noticed today it did act up during the day time also. The screen would flash from the image behind me to white and back again a few times and then it would work normally again.

Anyone else have a similar issue and know of a fix?

Never had that issue , I would start off with changing the camera itself ??
I have a camera , not sure if it's the same as yours , mines a 2014 , I have it listed in the classifieds ...

Edit Edit
My camera P/N is 56038978AH
there are 4 diff cameras I'm aware of , the p/n are the same with the exception of the last 2 digits , can't remember what the others are , ill look around and see if I can find out , I know they are all able to be used in the 2013+ vehicles .
×××× edit ×××× other P/N of compatible cameras same as above , the last two digits change (AI) (AJ) (AG)
HOPE THIS HELPS !

Thanks, If it comes down to needing a new camera I will either live with it for now or possibly get in touch with you. I was mostly trying to figure out if it was a common issue and if anyone had a fix for it. Maybe loose wire, condensation build up inside camera housing or some other unknown. I know its more likely to be the camera itself. But a guy can hope haha

It's easy to get to for troubleshooting , just take the panel off the inside the tailgate , pop off the two lock rods and remove two small hex head screws (7 or 8 mm I think) and the handle assy is in your hands ! You could easily check the connectors 2ea inside the tailgate , they are pretty solid and the camera is supposed to be waterproof? Could have a connection or condensation issue though ! The camrea itself is easily removed from the handle while the handle is still installed, two #25 tq screws , temp install a buddy's cam for troubleshooting , or just put yours in covered container full of rice in direct sunlight all day , pop it back in and see if it's better ...hope this works !

LOL My camera is still available in the classifieds

Do you have the (FROM THE FACTORY KIT ?) or the OEM add on kit or an aftermarket?

OEM original from the factory.
XAC ParkView(TM) Rear Back‐up Camera

The truck is loaded with just about every option you could get on one of these except for the fold down rear seat arm rest.

I will definitely open the panel up and take a look and see if I see anything out of the norm. When it does work, it works great. clear pictures and all. But it seems to be whatever causes the issue is light sensitive (dark of the night or direct sunlight) so as luck would have it, Its probably a camera issue like you originally mentioned. But Ill atleast investigate first.

Good luck !
Make sure you check the connector on the truck side of the camera / lock jumper harness , the camrea/ lock jumper harness is the longer of the two inside the tailgate " it's U shaped ) and the truck side harness is underneath the bed on the far aft drivers side wall , the spare tire is in the way a little but you can still get to it , just depress the lock and pull straight back . If you find no connection issues try the rice thing . See below , some pics of mine from when I was installing my B/U camera kit.

This is the truck side of the camera /lock jumper harness.

Awesome!, Thanks for the detailed pics and info!.

I will dig into it in the next few days if I can find a little extra time to do so.

I eventually would also like to install a electric tailgate lock so I can lock and unlock it with my key fob with the rest of the doors instead of having to pull my key out every time and make sure I have my tonneua cover locked also.
