Backup camera.

I have a 2014 Ram 2500. It has the optional cargo camera. It has a Carlson 5th wheel tail gate on it so I don’t have a back up camera. I ordered a license plate mounted aftermarket back up camera that plugs into the OEM wiring harness. I called the company’s tech support because their brochure says it will not work with the optional cargo camera. They had me send a pic of the OEM plug and sent me a camera with the proper plug and said it should work. We’ll it doesn’t. Does anyone out there know why that is is??? Also, has anyone came across an aftermarket camera that will work with the OEM wiring and screen?? Thanks….Mike

I'm looking a 5th wheel tall gate too and I will run into the same backup camera issues.

Depending on which radio and rearview mirror the truck has, it's possible to have both the cargo and back up camera. My buddies '14 came from the factory with both.
Let's see if @Mpgrimm2 will chime in, he knows a thing or two about adding accessories to these trucks.

Is this a factory installed 8.4 radio? (See post 51 in the BuCam thread ... & post 10)


Basically, 2013-15 8.4 radios, only 8.4 sw version 17.11.x supported both camera inputs. If you're updated past that you're out of luck. (Default for 13-15 trucks from the factory with 2 cameras was BuCam in Rearview and cargocam on radio). 2016+ radios don't have this limitation on any sw version. (you can swap it out for a 16-17 RAx radio easlily).

You also have to turn on the 2nd Camera input (BuCam) with AlfaOBD (or dealer adds the "XAC" sales code) to tell the radio to look for the other camera... if the radio has a compatible sw version to allow it.
