Backup warning brake--How did Ram not think of this?

Got a 2020 1500 Rebel in March. Love it so far, but some confusing things have arose.

My truck has a blind spot warning system that shows an orange light on the side mirrors when somebody is in your blind spot. When you hook a trailer light harness up in the back when towing something, the truck senses it an AUTOMATICALLY extends the blind spot warning system by 20-30 feet to account for the trailer. Smart.

Nonetheless, when I hook up a trailer and throw the truck in reverse it almost instantly triggers the backup warning sensor and slams my breaks on, usually scaring the crap out of me. Only way to stop this is by MANUALLY turning off the reverse sensor. How can they, on one hand, be smart enough to extend the blind spot warning system when a trailer is plugged in, yet, on the other hand, not take this problem into account?

Hoping and praying this could be fixed on a software update!!!

I don't have a 5th gen (yet) but I have heard that you can shut off the brake part of that feature in one of the uconnect settings menus. That way the parking sensor can remain on and active but it won't auto brake. I would have a look around in the settings on your center screen.

If you are using a 7 pin connector it should shut off automatically.
If you are using a 4 pin you have to manually shut it off.

If you are using a 7 pin and it isn't shutting off there is an issue.

If you are only using the 4 pin...you just got to remember to shut it off

I used a 7 pin today and it happened. I had to shut it off manually, which is annoying because every time I use it I only remember to manually shut it off after the brakes jerk on. I'm glad you noted it's supposed to shut off with the 7 pin harness, because there must be something wrong with mine, as mine did not work with the 7 pin today.

Although the only reason I used the 7 pin was because the trailer I towed today was a 5 pin, and the adapter I used was through the circular 7 pin. So I was technically using a 5 pin harness through a circular 7 pin adapter. Do you know if it's supposed to shut off automatically with a setup like that?

I think it is the trailer brake that alerts it to the trailer.

So using the adaptor still didn't accomplish the 7 pin connection...if you get what I mean

I tow both a travel trailer with a 7 pin (with electric brake) and a utility trailer with 4 pin with my ‘20 1500. I have the auto brake function manually turned off, but with either trailer the rear Park sense is automatically disabled.

The 4 pin does have a 7 pin adapter hooked to it (due to previous tow vehicle only has 7 pin) now that I think of it.

Is there a 7-pin plug/adapter that will trigger the trailer miles odometer? My boat trailer has surge brakes so the Ram doesn't detect when a trailer is detected.

Just curious, do you have your seat belt on when backing up? Or is your door opened as you back up?
