We moved to Kentucky from new york state thinking i was getting away from all the winter crap...yet, here we are expecting 6" of snow and ice and freezing weather.

but, at least my taxes are much much cheaper, so, i'll endure the cold and snow.

I'm hoping for the best even though I'll be out in the thick of it, but I'm used to it. The good part of all this is it's mostly on a Sunday plus everyone knows it's coming and will stay home. This lets the plows have free reign at cleaning the streets and a good 24-36 hours to make headway. It'll be well below freezing for the following 10-15 days so we can't wait for the sun to clean everything off for us.

The garage and screen porch are holding about 1/2 cord of ready firewood, the freezer and pantries are stocked, the snowblower is gassed/tested/ready, and all the batteries are all charged. Plus, we're retired.

I've offered a ride to work and back for our daughter and up to 3 co-workers, it's a pharmacy. I've been driving in the worst we've seen in these parts for over 53 years. This is not the first winter storm, and not even close to the worst we've seen.

I went a bit further South than you did to avoid winter. So far it seems to be working out for me.

I have the tractor ready to move any snow we get, I will be changing the oil in my generator this afternoon. I stocked up on Ginger Beer and dark R u M some regular beer and a bottle of Red Neck Rivera Apple Honey whiskey. My wife asked if we should get some more food, I told her I think we have it covered. We are both retired so neither of us has to be anywhere but here. Stay Safe and warm this next week.

We are on day 4 of schools being closed due to 'inclement weather'

It drives me crazy, we live in Michigan, we KNOW it's gonna snow, and if it was 2, 3 foot overnight, sure I get it...but we haven't seen more than 4 inches of fresh snow a day...that's considered alright dusting

These days it's all about litigation or the threat of it. It's just too easy
to close schools and add days to the calendar in June.

The issue isn’t usually the amount of snow fall (up to a certain amount of course), it’s how much drifting is happening. You can get some pretty hairy situations with 4 inches of snow and 30 mph winds, versus a foot of snow with little to no wind. Snow plows can usually keep up if there’s isn’t drifting happening.

I recall waiting for the bus in some pretty deep snow, and very cold temps, when I was a kid. We waited at the end of our driveway - not in our parents' car. And you didn't miss the bus if you knew what was good for you. Heck, our bus even got stuck down in a valley and couldn't get back up out of it. They brought another bus and we walked to the top of the hill to get on it!
Our society has gone soft

I missed a free flight from PA to Key West, Florida courtesy of the US Air Force today. If I had checked the flight schedule yesterday instead of today I would be in Key West typing this instead of Philadelphia, PA :-( I picked up some groceries this morning, have salt left over from the last storm so I'm good to go. They're forecasting 8 to 12 inches in my area with a chance of sleet/freezing rain at some point during the storm. Don't care about the snow but ice could be a real problem since it tends to bring down tree branches which then bring down power lines.

My older kid South of U he said they predicted 18”. Down here no snow but 1/2 to 1” of ice. Rather have snow easier and safer
