I was thinking of getting the oem one but many people hate it I guess. I was looking on etrailer but don't know what to look for.

I rather spend a little extra and have it then go cheap and regret later. What is the best or is oem good and people are just silly? I want as much plug n play as possible, no wiring. No voiding warranty.

I did a lot of research and decided the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller at etrailer is the best choice. I bought one plus the plug & play wire harness. Then decided to istall the OEM. Sold the unit but still have the wire harness if you are interested.

Ram/Dodge #3024 wiring harness. Paid $26.00 incl SIH..
Sell for $18.00 including shipping.

I have had both a aftermarket and a OEM and honestly they both work great as long as you get a progressive brake controller not a time delay. I personally would rather have the OEM but I don't tow all day long just sometimes on the weekend. I would prefer the OEM due to the clean install the aftermarket controllers are bulky and seem to be in the way or not convenient if they are placed somewhere not In the way. I used the draw tite IQ on my 2010 and it worked great. the P3 seems to be the top of the line. Program multiple trailers, and works more than just tandem axles. The P3 is cheeper than the OEM so I wouldn't be afraid to spend the money on it if your willing to. Aftermarket is plug and play so it's a easy install.

I mounted the P3 and didn't like the fact that it was a potential knee banger. Found a good deal on an OEM and went for it.

Hmm have me thinking, mind if I ask what you paid total for the OEM?

I have a Tekonsha Prodigy P2, the P3 is just a newer version. I really like the one I have. Custom mounted in dash. No knee knocking.

I added the OEM to my '15 Ram 1500. It is absolutely superior to the aftermarket units I've used in the past. Yes, it costs more, but it's completely integrated and works silky smooth. With my Prodigy, I always had a certain amount of brake grab and a slight delay when hitting the brakes. With the OEM, it's just like the trailer is part of the truck. It doesn't get any better than that.

I had a Prodigy P3 with my F250 and 5th wheel. It was a great unit and much better than the $30 basic Reese I had before it. Went OEM with the 1500 as 1) looks really good. 2) Integrates neatly into the dash screen controls. 3) It’s supposed to work with the traction control system to stop sway if it ever gets way out of hand. The computer can provide braking as it sees fit on both truck (left and right independently I think) and trailer wheels, and even take over the throttle to bring it all under control. Can’t do that with an aftermarket system.

If you decide to get one and install it yourself as I did. I HIGHLY recommend ordering a 7mm ratcheting wrench off Amazon. You will thank me.

My 2013 Ram QC I used a p3 for a year, worked fine. Then I found a used oem brake controller on ebay for $60 so bought it and had dealer flash it to truck. They both worked fine, but I wanted oem because I seen in 2013 anti sway control was added to these trucks. Last year using the p3 I always had some sway, worse in high winds even with a anti sway bar. Oem brake controller first tow was last week, did 320 mile trip, zero sway. Nothing changed in RV from last year weight wise and I actually removed the sway bar, still no sway. So if its the oem brake controller that stopped the sway, I would say get oem. Is all I can think that changed from towing last year till now.

I have ran tekonshas for years. Never , ever had a problem with them.

My current truck is the first vehicle I have owned that had a factory controller in it. It works as it should also.
