Most here use SCT, then super-chips and a couple more i think.

The way I see it, most of the cheap-y chips like the Jet "performance" chips are junk.

Most of us use SCT like Merc225hp mentioned.
If you have a stock engine I'd get the SCT tuner or Edge Evolution CTS

If you're modified, a custom tune by Ryan of AirRam performance is your best bet.

I've got the CTS2 on my 01 5.9 magnum. Performance wise I never thought it did much, that was until I put it back to stock. When first installed I was running 32" tires and no lift, recently I set it back to stock after doing an update with it on 35's. I spaced retuning everything, and a few weeks of driving I was getting pissed as I thought something was wrong. One day while dinking with some settings on the tuner, I noticed it was set back to stock. I went through and set it back to 91 octane and adjusted my tire size to 35" tires, and it ran like a ***** ape. Quicker and firmer shifts on the transmission, overall power seemed to come back, and I was at that moment completely content with the Edge tuner.

Plus, all the new features are pretty sweet. Maintenance manager means I no longer need to remember at what mileage I changed my oil or rotated my tires, I get warning signals when I'm within 500 miles due for service, and you can go through and set everything up.

One new feature is the toggle switches. They sell wiring harness kits now that plug into the tuner and you can hook lights, compressors, lockers, or any other 12V accessory you want and be able to control them all from the tuner...which means, of course, no drilling holes or trying to find places for toggle switches. Pretty sweet feature I'm excited for, already ordered the kits to hook up my lights to.

Software on your computer allows you to upload custom backgrounds, all kinds of sweet jazzy stuff.

I'm still thinking once I start doing some serious motor work of putting the CTS2 back to stock and using it for a glorified monitor and doing a custom tune on the SCT, but for stock applications I'm extremely happy. Plus, Edge can upload custom profiles for them as well. Already talked to them about when I do my regear to 4.88's as currently there is no feature set on the tuner for my truck, but they said they can edit everything and all I need to do is plug it in and let the profile load, then go reload the tune on the truck to correct speedometer and transmission shift points.

Fixed your post.

SCT is the way to go performance wise. Can be used for anything from stock to boosted 408 stroker and anything in between.

Edge is good, tunes are better than the superchips and it allows you to monitor many things. Read Nightmares post.

Superchips: do not waste your time or money on new. If you can find one used for $100 or less by all means go for it, its a little better than stock. But for $350 you might as well spend the couple dollars more to get the better Edge or the much superior SCT.

ANYTHING else other than these 3 is junk. Snake oil. ********. Waste.

As for the custom tuning, +1 to Ryan at airram.com do not go to Hemifever

With your truck being post 98, a gear swap doesn't effect speedometer or odometer readings. As long as you have it set up for 35s, no additional changes are required. The only thing I could imagine them tweaking would be transmission tuning. Which with a stock intake manifold and cam set up, there really isn't a need.
