Not interested in cheap WalMart air fresheners, most of them are too strong and made with toxic chemicals.

My best solution (so far) for a little bit of scent has been to use some loose high-quality incense sticks under the driver seat. This works pretty good, and you can vary the scent and intensity by changing the sticks, and using more/less sticks.

My preference would be cedar wood scent, kinda like a full-on cedar closet. I've been trying some of those little 'sachet' bags of cedar chips, but they seem to have basically zero aroma. Maybe they sit on the shelves too long and lose the smell.

Just looking for some ideas. What are you guys doing?

Dave,

I enjoy this Coronado Cherry can of smells by California Scents.

It's easy to control the stink intensity by opening the can top in stages, eventually removing the top entirely and replacing it with the included lid with holes.

After the scent dies down a bit more, you can lift one end of the center scent block (1 of 3 blocks) to disperse more stink.

I initially locate the can in the back seat area and slowly migrate it forward as the scent starts to dissipate.

Unfortunately, they don't offer a cedar scent.
The following link might provide more info on the scent that you're searching for.

Could get a piece of cedar , what scent you prefer, then adjust a saw so it’s only cutting a groove .
Four or five shallow cuts should bring out the natural aroma.
I also thought it would work in the bottom of the plastic storage bin behind my seats . rcsb

OK so I have a couple suggestions. Full disclosure i work in QC/R&D for this company.
These are pricey but some people swear by them. Fresh Wave gel
Yes it says litter box. But it has a cedarwood scent and uses real cedar oil. You just open the lid, peel off the seal, replace the lid, stick it under your seat and forget about it. It does not have a real strong scent but does a decent job of absorbing odors.
Or these: Whisker Odor Trap
Same idea but little sachets you can toss around. Also uses real cedar oil. And also pricey.

Another option is to check out a place like this P&J Trading and purchase an oil that sounds interesting. Then you can sprinkle a little on a sponge or cloth and tuck it somewhere. It might work to refresh one of those hanging air fresheners.
Have fun experimenting!

I wonder how any essential oil would work ?
Like peppermint or ?
Supposed to be good for keeping critters away :)

I'm a big fan of munching peppermints while watching the tube, but I don't want my truck to smell like candy.

Western cedar sounds very appealing. I believe they make some essential oils from cedar. I saw them somewhere on amazon while looking for cedar scents.

As previously mentioned, maybe dab some oil on a sponge and toss it under the seat.
The only thing about essential oils is that they're crazy expensive.

My wife’s friend turned us on to this……clothes washing granules(smelly ones) not powder, although I think that would work, inside a jar with a shaker top, like you get in restaurants for pepper flakes. You shake it up occasionally not tipping any out, and the smell of clean fabric clothes fills the truck for ages! Works too.

Bought some cedar oils from Amazon, just got delivered. Gonna soak some of my little cedar sachets with the oil and see what happens!! ;)

Please keep us in the loop.

I might give this a try if your feedback is good. Although I still have a new can of California Scents to use up first.

I ordered three different cedar oils. I'm gonna try them all out, at varying amounts. I'll report back in a week or two after some testing.

I don't 'need' air fresheners, I keep my truck spotless, vacuum and wipe-down multiple times per week, so no odors at all. But I've always had a soft spot for a real cedar closet, haha.

Ya, I stuff my nose in a cedar chest every once in a while for a cedar fix.

I am a forester so I keep various conifer tree parts like foliage and cones in my truck. It repels rodents. It smells like the places I like to visit.
I keep pine cones in the house I can look at them all the time. I especially like sugar pine and Coulter pine cones.

I still have a couple of pine cones kicking around the backseat area.

We picked up a new puppy for the GF last year and discovered that pine cones were a good pacifier to help keep the puppy chilled during the multi-hour road trip.
