Instead of getting stock cv's you should get the Kore cv's if you want to replace them. I think they are around 800.00 and they are made for high angles. Ok then just set your 5100's at 2.1" until you get your lift.

2.1 should let me be till my proper lift, right?
I was looking at the Kore cv's as I was speaking with Candy08 on this....

Might this even make more sense to do the Bilstein at 2.8 with the Body Lift of 1.25" and the 1" coil spacer in the rear.... and if I get vibration (s) get the Kore CV's (this way Im planning for the future and should correct the problem)....then when ready jump in with the lift?

Thoughts on that route? Does it work?
This way, I get a 4" lift now cheaply (well until I add the Kore CV's)

you running them too?

Yup sounds like a plan. naw I have the stock cv's and I have no vibrations.

Thats the beauty of this forum....bouncing idea's off one another :)
That is probably what I will do then.....
Im guessing you have your Bilsteins set to 2.1 or 2.8?
If no vibrations for you (lucky you).....why the 'f' are you scaring me...... Im kidding.
I know you are just warning others :)

I have mine maxed but I.have a 6" lift which works a lot better then stock at 2.8 setting because I have a drop bracket. 2.1 will work fine. Not trying to scare you just trying to help.

I know you're not....thanks for your help
I have looked at the Kore CVs and will see if I can source them cheaper somewhere...doubt it, but Ill continue to look around

If your going to get a 4"or 6" lift you wont need the core cv's. Save your money.

You're right!
I called the stealer and they charge $420 an axle which includes the CV.
Damn, I may just do what you suggested.
But, I'll probably chance it and try the Bilsteins.

Just set the bilsteins at 2.1" till you get your lift.

That is probably what Ill be doing....
a true lift kits comes with all the necessary things to allow you to put the bilsteins at 2.8" without affecting the stock CV's, right?

im going to dis agree lol... adding bilsteins with or without a lift is causing added strain on your cv's..... if a lift company could make a lift 8'' that would function properly and not cause additional strain on components they would....if i were you i wouldnt take chances with a 50k truck... spend the money and get a 6'' or 4'' whichever you prefer, and if you want the added height get a body lift. call the lift manufacturer and ask them if they recommend bilsteins with your lift and they will say no.

i went thru all this before i lifted mine and every mechanic i spoke to didnt recommend them

Well then how come Bighorn and a few other members such as Musclemckeester are running maxed Bilsteins with 37s, off road them fairly hard at times, and still have no issues? It's not like they're stackin strut spacers LOL

Let me pose this question....

If I get an actual lift kit...
It will come with parts/hardware that will drop all appropriate components to where they should be....like stock?
Ie, CV's will be at the proper angle (similar or close tomfactory?....But now your truck is lifted.
If this correct?

bilstein only or any other level, will raise the front but put strain on the CV's because the angle has now changed
Am I correct here?

I have ran the 'me wanting to lift' by my wife.....so now if I do it, it's all good ;)

a level kit is pretty basic. 2 plates with a donut between them. They lift the truck from the strut tower. The CVs will change angles.

True....

But on a true lift and still using Bilsteins (maxed) does the CVs still change or is there something in the lift kit that allows for the CVs to be left at the proper angle?

Ok when I first had my BDS 6" lift installed it had a 3" rake. I called BDS on it and they told me everything was right. So I asked them how I could get my nose higher. They didnt have an answer for me. So I did some research. There was a guy that had the same issue as me and he installed 1" Ravtech preload spacers. I called BDS and asked them if this would work. They suggested against it. I did it anyway. I took pics.of the spacers on my truck, the A arms, and the cv's and sent them to BDS. They liked the idea and wanted me to keep them posted. I did. Then the bilstein 5100's came out. I called BDS again and asked them the same question. They told me to try it. So I did. Sent the same pics to them again and they were very impressed. Now they are making their own adjustable struts. So now tell me that these will.mess up my front end how?

You know your stuff sir :)

Leveling a already lifted truck is easier on it because of the drop bracket. The drop bracket makes the cv's streighter then what a stock Ram is. Mine stock my cv's were already at an angle.

I went under my truck today and did see the CVs angled.....so you're saying they are less angled and almost straight?
That means less stress, right?
Sounds like it to me......

The drop kit compensates for more? I mean it wasn't factored into the equation that says 'hey, people will put Bilsteins or picks in'

I think I will save up another month and do this right....

Or simply go as planned with the Bilstein to allow me to throw my wheels on and still get the lift kit and throw them on when I get it?

Do the RCX kits come with this drop brackets too?
That's the kit I'm leaning towards as I'm not a heavy off roader.... I'm just an off road poser.......can't believe I admitted that. Lol

Plus there is nothing close to me. If there was, I probably would go to it often.

Thanks bro I just did my research, tried it and it worked. :)

Yes the less of an angle on the cv's the less stress they have. The drop bracket puts everything at stock if not better. Go ahead and put your bilsteins in set them to 2.1 and throw tour new wheels and tires on there till you get your lift.

Yes the RCX has a drop bracket. RCX is a good lift too.

I'm doing my research now/lately and I go to bed with a slight migraine...lol
How the heck will 2.1 look with a 4" lift?
It will have a squat look, no?
Will I have to lower it when the lift is in?

Still can't decide....4" or 6"

I will probably go 4" first.....I just bought Toyo Mt 35's and would hate to take a loss so soon...
Plus the shop that will send me the 4" RCX said, if I want to go to the 6", he can sell me the components I need to get it to a 6" as he said the 4" and 6" kits have many similar parts used.
True? I don't know.

Plus I gotta get my damn truck in my work underground and think 4" will still let me down there.

With either the 4" or the 6" lifts you can use the highest setting on the bilsteins if needed. The 4" and 6" uses the exact same parts exept the arut spacers are different. The rear block.is smaller also. I would measure the lowest part you gotta take your truck in and go from there. My truck feom from the ground to the top of my cab is 7'4".

Very good idea on measuring....
But I maybe leaving my job for another. Hoping the offer comes in.
Then I'll be at my home office where she can be outside as high as she wants. :)
You almost got a Yao Ming truck. Lol
