My son just became the owner of a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie, and we are hoping someone here can help us with a fix for this. The black "film" between the front and rear doors is cracking/splitting very badly. (see attached photo). Just wondering what others have done to fix this issue on their trucks so we can see what our options are. Pictures would be awesome if you have any.

I'd say just peel it all off and see if he likes it that way. I think it's just some type of tape anyways.

It should just peel off. You'll probably see a bit of difference with the paint on the truck fading over time but maybe polish it up nice and it'll look better in time. Plus it will look way better then what's going on now.

You can remove it (it's a sticker) and have it repainted gloss black too.
I personally like the black out between windows.

Take a heat gun and peel it off. No worries.

Thanks for the replies. I think we will give the heat gun a try and see how it goes. We tried peeling it off as is, and that just wasn't happening. If by chance he doesn't like the white between the doors, is there some place we can purchase something similar to whats on there now?

The heat gun trick worked great. Wasn't able to find anything that would take all of the old adhesive, but we got it good enough to work with. My wife believes she has found the same material, or something very close that should work, and have the same look as the original. Hope to post some finished pics in the near future. Depends how bad the weather coming turns out to be.

The rain held off just long enough. Looks pretty good!

My wife says it was 641 vinyl. Her sister has a cricut machine that cuts objects out of that type of vinyl, and she had a little left over from a previous project. She said it can be ordered on ebay. I was really impressed with how it turned out. Thinking about ordering some more to do my wife's car. It has it on the B pillar as well.
