You cant. It guzzles gas. Period. Nothing you can do about it. Put up with it or sell out.

FCA spends bazillions of $ on getting the best out of it, and they apparently think the mds is a worthwhile addition. If there was a couple hundred (or even couple thousand) dollar mod that would snake out a few more mpg’s, trust me, they would have sold em that way. They do stupid ****, but they would not overlook mpg’s.
What he said!

You can't make it better.
You can however make it worse.

Added weight is bad. I added....
a 110 lb. grille guard,
a 60 lb. headache rack,
a 70 lb. side steps,
a 40 lb. drop hitch 2" ball (under the seat)
a 40 lb. drop hitch 2-5/16" ball, attached
a 90 lb. thick rubber bed mat
and whatever a 1/2" 18V. Milwaukee impact gun + sockets, 40 feet of 1/2" chain, tools, ammo for 4 guns and hand tools weighs.
It adds up!

I lost 1 to 1.5 mpg going to stock size M/T tires. That's 30 to 45 miles LESS on a tank of gas. And I run them at 80 psi all around.

I like mudders on my trucks.
I like my 4.10 gears
I like having whatever I might need.
You pay for that in crappy mpg's.

You want good gas mileage, you don't buy a 7000 lb. truck with the aerodynamics of a refrigerator.

You just can't.

You my friend have hit the nail squarely on the head! I don't know if the OP's truck is stock or not but going to a bigger more aggressive heavier tire is guaranteed to cost 1.5-2MPG. A lift kit of any kind is going to cost you mileage, removing the front air dam is going to cost you mileage, adding extra weight of any kind is going to cost you mileage. Believe it or not most performance mods will hurt your mileage initially (makes you want to mash the throttle that much more....accelerator,gas pedal.....don't know what you guys call it up there)until the newness wears off. The easiest way to maximize your fuel economy is to keep your truck bone stock and drive the speed limit. Pretty much the only guys that I know that ever bring up the motor vs engine thing are electricians and instrumentation techs.

Well in 2000 my brand new truck cost me $26,667, but them days are gone mY friend LOL
Of course everything costs more now but I paid $5k more in 2000 and if I said $9300 I would be saying something inaccurate in referencing my truck, LOL.

You are right, sir about mods costing more in gas. After I put on my MF cat back and a K&N CAI, I felt like a teenager and drove like one as often as possible. This 392 MOTOR absolutely roars under full throttle. I mash the "long, skinny pedal on the right" to express myself to moron drivers too.

Do the same thing with my Harley. Ride slightly in front of idiot on cell phone in gear that makes my bike the loudest. Stay there until they get pissed and hang up LOL.

All that fun uses more gas, sometimes a lot more.

I planned to stay away from the never ending Engine/Motor nonsense. but nooooo, I'm dragged into it. Here we go...

In 1977 I was rebuilding my first small block Chevy ENGINE. I used a "MOTOR'S MANUAL" for all the clearance specs for bearings, rings etc. Somebody explain that.

In the 80's, I was a mechanic in a Sunoco. We had a shelf full of "Motor's Manuals" for any possible vehicle. 'Splain that.

We all know the difference.
A few of us just have to prove they know.
****!

Oh, I guess I need to change the "NJ" to "TN" in my name since I moved to Knoxville. We're almost neighbors 'tide. Lol

How can I get better fuel economy out of hemi 6.4? Only goes into eco mode downhill with foot off the gas. Thank you
Start - Peak of Mount Whitney in CA
Finish - Badwater Basin in Death Valley, CA
14,776 ft elevation change
135 mi by road
88 mi as the crow flies

Start out with new brakes or you will eventually and alarmingly switch from the 135 mi way to the 88 mi way there!

I'm betting the mpg could be fantastic but offset by brake repairs and wonder what the mpg would be going back up? I love the reports of super mpg by down hill with the wind drivers. LOL

Someone stated that removing the 40 lb stock muffler and replacing it with a Mufflex or Solo piece was worth 1-2 mpg. I’m not sure how legit it is since we all drive them differently but I’m going to try it for the sound improvement anyway.
Mine went down 1 to 2 because no matter how hard I try I cannot keep my foot out of it.

Yup!
Put a cold air intake on and the gas mash sound is even more pleasing to that "inner 17 yr old". It absolutely made it roar.

I'm 60 and I still drive around blipping it like a kid. It puts a stupid grin on my face every time. Every damn time.

You want the Solo Exhaust Delete Kit. Hands down its the best sound.
I have a couple of videos of it on YouTube.
My mpg did go up some probably about 3-4 tenths.

I love my truck!

I wish I knew about this kit before I spent $700. on a full cat back.

Bonus is, I really do like NOT seeing the Fugly resonator and I also like the option I picked with the dual outlet 5" polished stainless tips.

Live & learn

I intentionally left the resonator on and put a 6x12” chrome tip on it. I’ve been thinking about taking the resonator off. Not made up my mind yet

Thanks, I’ve been following the Solo thread and love the sound but we are 54 and the loud exhaust days are reserved for my 65 GMC.

The Solo MR400 is a possibility though.

I'm very curious how the new tranny combo will help along with the MDS tuning that comes with it.

Yes, and hopefully it allows them to improve the cam and entire power band. The truck 392 should have better peak numbers while retaining adequate low end torque with 8HP first gear ratio.

I don’t agree with this. It’s a truck, and should have a fat and flat power band. Peaky power bands are for sports cars.

Then they might as well put the 5.7 in it and save money IMO. The 8 speed allows you to keep it in the powerband all day when you need it most, WFO.

Do you buy a 400hp/trq towing vehicle to use half of it with hopes of fuel economy?
