Opinions on which shock to get if i (the wife[emoji23]) want improved ride quality while driving empty or towing.

What are your experiences?

FYI: i dont mind whatsoever about the bouncy ride. The wife just wants to see if i can make it better for the longer drives in the truck.

you are probably going to get a lot of people telling you to search bilstein here and you'll find a ton of threads. go into the 4th gen suspension section and you'll find a ton of them. but i am planning to go with the bilsteins. i had them on my tacoma and for a little truck it sure road well. i would stay away from the 4600. i think it's kind of a value stock shock. get the 5100s for the adjustment...and a bit more firm than stock but better maneuverability ride, is what most people say.

note- just realized you have a 3500. what i've said may only apply to the 1500 and what i've read.

Changing shocks isnt gonna gain you much of a ride improvement if you are still riding on the factory 1 ton coils and leafs. Sorry, but it wont.

Drop the tire pressure considerably when empty... that will help the most.

Good info. Kinda what I originally figured.

Thank you sir. Ill tell the wife to suck it up.

I run 40 in the rear if im doing long drives. But i have larger tires. I can run 35psi and still have a great contact patch.

Thuren coils will be the best ride improvement and as mentioned if you tow heavy and/or often go with air bags.

We can set you up with Thuren products and Airlift bags if interested

I put Bilsteins on mine a few years ago. As other said, it's not going to solve your harsh ride issues. I'm sure you would be happy with the Thuren Fab kit assuming you don't mind the loss of payload/towing capacity.

I will never give up payload. I am never happy with the payload i have. I need a military flatbed to be happy. i want a dully next just for the payload. My wife will just have to live with it.

U&A, when I was driving my 3500, a lot of folks were putting in suspension seats and reported good results. I have no experience with them to give a review.

Lots of guys have done just the Thuren Overland Front only, Springs and shocks and have reported a huge increase in ride quality over stock, but they don’t sacrifice their payload on the back end. That and running 35-40 psi should solve your issue. For your 3500 they have 0.5”, 1.75”, and 2.5” front kits. Comes with Springs, shocks, and a new Track bar for $790

That’s what my plan is for the 2500 when I get some of this new house **** paid off! $900 for curtains.......

My wife and mother inlaw made our curtains. Entire house done for less than $100.

I had a 2015 3500 and the ride was unbearable. I ended up changing the springs front and rear. I used the Bilstein kit for the front, and Carli add a packs in the rear. Drastically improved the ride. It did lose some load carrying capability but it was fine for my needs.

Cool,

Guess 2500 is more along your lines then. The coils on them trucks ride nice. I dont mind the ride of the 3500 ...But i also prefer rigid frame Harley’s too.

I just ordered 4600 series. I was thinking the 5100 though and assumed they were better but when I called to order the bilstein rep said unless your truck is lifted or will be, 5100 is a waste, they are built the same as 4600 but allows for a longer extension, hence lifted truck.
