Kudo's for doing this and sharing it, too!I posted a couple of threads last fall mostly for advice regarding the zf8 fluid change on my 2018 Ram 1500 3.6 4x4. (thanks for helpful tips). I promised I'd send the used fluid for testing analysis to see how ugly it would be at this high mileage. Just for context I had a relatively gentle 160K miles, no towing, very little city driving. (I'm at 172K now, I replaced with Amsoil SS fuel efficient ATF) Here's an image of the blackstone report.

It even worse, if you actually use unicorn **** as in redline true pao/ester d6, your transmission may not like it as it is too slippery. Dealer "fake" unicorn fluid reads exactly like valvonie's famous maxlife universal p!ss on the stat page. They said you had to use pao, but the actual use of PAO caused issues in Rams. If your pour point looks like group 3, then it is group 3, you can see the pour points of the pao oils. The only benefit, and it is a benefit, to the pao fluid is the color green. But I would suggest the juice isn't worth the squeeze, max life for zf's as long as you can buy it. Yes there is a movement to take it away, they use the "fake" climate argument to force a great solution for most transmissions. The trying to ban it because it is "universal" and eventhough it's is universally thin (one would think to their benefit) "they" want it gone to force people into either expensive fluid or to not service their transmission = Jay Pan!Thanks for posting this, this clearly shows there's zero reason to use the OEM unicorn p!ss.![]()
That's not a video, it's a link to a facebook group.
On my vehicles which have a dipstick & fill-tube, I usually pump all the old fluid out of the torque converter during tranny fluid changes ..till it runs clear (100% new fluid).
Curious if you also changed pan and filter ?
If not...makes me think maybe I'll go the easier road and just do a drain and fill !

That may be the case, but Rick named the link as 'Video', and I received the 'This video isn't available anymore' notification from the FB page.
I don't have a FB account, some of their links work for me and others don't.
BMW ATF 3+ is not the same as Chrysler ATF +3.This is new info, apparently the new "lifetime" fluid is actually a fluid brought back from the dead as in aft 3, lol. You cant make this stuff up?
You can search for a year I doubt you can find two oils that look as close on the stat sheet as zf8 and maxlife, in fact it appears the only difference is the color. Both synthetic base oils same pour points.I'm curious if anyone has done a fluid analysis that switched to Maxlife. It would be interesting to see if these wear similarly or if maxlife needs changed more often.

Valvoline maxlife voa

In what way? Is there voa's of both? I don't have the info either way. So bmw got away with stealing Chryslers licensed atf 3 title?
We know atf 4 is different from zf8, but zf8 looks an awful lot like maxlife.
.
ATF +3 has been discontinued for like 20 years, not a lot of info or analysis to reference. Chrysler will refer to ATF +4 as being backward compatible for any application that calls for a ATF +3.Hootbro

I don’t know about it being odor free. The bottle of brand new zf 8/9 spd fluid I opened up reminded me of the days of baby diaper stank. It was awful stank. Note the fluid at 108k, No stank at all.I was surprised at how relatively odor free that zf8 lifeguard fluid is. Unlike the typical red hydraulic ATF fluids.

This is great that the OEM fill lasted this long and checks out but it's still worthwhile to change before 100k on these trucks
