Hey everyone, I've got an 06 Laramie with a blown 5.7, I've found an engine out od an 04 with very low miles and a great price. What all would I need to male it work? Just pull the mds plug and put the solenoids in and replace lifters? Thanks guys. I appreciate the help

Crap I was hoping they were the as.e block as I've seen the holes in earlier blocks for MDS solenoids with plastic plugs in them :( thanks. Guess the search continues

You will be able to use that block. My current block and rotating asm is out of a 06 300c. The older hemis have the spots to change over the stuff. How bad is your 06 motor? Did it take out the block or just crack a piston or what?

I was trying to find what was different lol cause I was sure the block was the same from what I remembered, are the heads different?
I'm not sure of the extent of the damage, was on the highway when oil pressure dropped and engine quite, it actually seized up. Now it will start but has a rattle and dry squeak. But I'd rather just dump one in for the sake of time, and then save some cash and build that one up later

Heads should be the same only heads are diff are the 03 heads which have no ERG port on the passanger side head. You will have to swap over or put in a new set of MSD lifters or run regular lifters and have the MSD turned off through the tune. You will use your TB and may have to change over some of the sensors but will work. Where are you located bud?

Awesome, I'll ask the guy about the get port before I go, I was planning to swap over the lifters as I had originally thought that was the biggest difference, and I was sure I had seen earlier engines with the holes lol. I'm in southern Alberta

Front view of 06 motor that shows the same EGR port with a set of PWR heads, pay no mind to the intake on top, were fabbing something.

Sweet, thanks! Another question, what year newer will work? I've found a smoking deal on one but it appears newer, has the small would filler on it. And he knows nothing about it but says it turns over, just not too sure lol

08 and below should work for you. My 04 and 05 took the small hole filters till I changed the 04 motor into an 06 car motor with the larger hole. The intake manifold would be the dead give away if its a VVT 5.7 motor.

No he didn't say, he doesn't know actually he said he got it when a business went under that scrapped write offs. It does loom backwards looking at the tabs were the cover goes into, I'm wondering if crank and pistons are the same, might be worth using the bottom end in my block for the price he's asking

Think you would be better severed with the 04 motor you found and do a freshen up on a stand or build the 04 how you want it. Waiting on parts would be your longest thing. How long can you be without your truck becomes the question. Going to the newer style motor may have more issues then either of us know where as going with the older motor will be a quick job.
