Hey everyone, looking for some help! My 07 ram 1500 with a 5.7 is suffering from an engine knock. Truck has 280,000km. Initially I thought it was the typical lifter/worn camshaft noise. I replaced the camshaft, all lifters, installed a new high volume oil pump, new timing chain and gears, and water pump. Upon inspection of the lifters and camshaft, I did not see any evidence of failure but proceeded with the repair. Of course after starting the engine after the repair, the noise was still present. I noticed the noise was most pronounced at idle and if I rev engine to 1500 plus the noise will go away. I deactivated each injector individually with my scan tool and found when deactivating cylinder 1 the noise would also go away. Thinking my noise may be a connecting rod, I pulled the oil pan, removed each connecting rod cap and inspected all connecting rod bearings and the crankshaft. Again, no sign of failure. I then pulled the front main cap and inspected the bearing and crank, still no issue. At this point I'm not sure if I may be dealing with a failed wrist pin or possibly piston slap? I'm running out of ideas of what the cause of this noise could be and hope someone may have some insight for me. On a side note, I inspected inside the oil pan upon removal and found what looks like evidence of copper bearing material and the oil is already looking glittery after only running engine for maybe a total of 10 min after camshaft repair.
