What is the Borg Warner 44-45 xfer case interval, and do I need the 35$ fluid for the non auto 4x4. I did a fluid change on it at 45k and now I'm at 80k. But I used the expensive fluid.

If you do not have the auto feature, no you don’t require the unicorn **** fluid: ATF+4 is perfect.

35-40K miles is a decent interval.
If You use your four-wheel-drive system quite often for long periods of time?
I would change it more often say 25 to 30,000 miles.

Just my thoughts / opinions.

The 44-44 A4WD unicorn **** is crap IMO. Mine works a lot better with Redline C+ in it anyhow...

At one time there was a VOA done of the Mystical **** & it showed extremely similar chemistry/formulation to Dexron III.
Nothing More.

I know one owner who ran Valvoline Maxlife Multi-Vehicle ATF in his BW44-44 for over 200K mile with zero issues.
He claimed the transfer case operated much smoother compared to the ****.

It’s basically only 2qts to do the service: It takes close to 25min—> if you have all the items underneath the Ram with you @ that time.

It’s so easy of a service/very inexpensive: Its extremely cheap insurance & awesome piece of mind.
Most of all it’s just smart preventative maintenance.
I personally see no reason to take this service past 45K miles.

I normally buy 2 cans of CRC brakleen & spray all around inside the case through the fill hole.
Normally there is a very small amount of crud that will flow out of the drain hole that the magnetic plug didn’t or hadn’t grabbed yet.

I do this same process to my Differentials as well.

Every owner will have their own opinion on time of service.
I just shared mine! Nothing More!
