Borla pro xs (single exit)

I decided to give the Borla a try based on multiples comments that it had a lower note.

Having a single side exit I went with the 3" offset/offset (40353). This is a smaller muffler than what the dual exit guys are using (14" vs 19") but I hope the larger factory resonator of the single will help with the loudness.


First impression is that the Borla is cheaper built, it must weight half what my 18" Magnaflow weight. Now it still look well built.


The inner tube are different, magnaflow have less holes in it and there's a deformation at each ends of the tube. the packing i the magnaflow is steel wool and the borla looks like fiberglass, thia is where I think the borla get its deeper sound since fabric will absorb more high frequency.

It should be installed welded next Wednesday, so sound clip will come after the install and a few days later (break in)

well from what I've seen it looks like it.

First there's a lip where the outside pipe join the inner one



Not impress by the welds too

It's not bad, but the 3 Magnaflow I owned looked better build that this Borla Pro XS.

ok so I got the muffler installed this morning and this is a weird beast. under I'd say 10%throttle it's tame, but as soon you pass that threshold the volume goes from 3 to 10 lol.

Now it dump after the axle and zero drone, will see if it get quieter after a few miles on it.

I'll try to post clip, but it so windy today I'm not sure it will work

ok so i went for a drive and it's much better now. I can get on it a lot more before it start to scream much like the magnaflow were.

really happy with the tone now, it's much deeper sounding, there's zero drone and the cab isn't shaking on cold start.

The next step will be to go true dual with an H pipe, but that will probably wait when I do a cam.

Well that didn't lasted long, after ~1000km there's drone at highway speed... After checking that everything was still tight and leak free I decided to try the larger dual exit Pro XS. I did the dual conversion in the past, so it just a matter of getting the muffler in place.

So got the new muffler this morning, waiting on the 2 2.25 clamps but might zip the one on the factory muffler if they don't show up today

I installed the dual last night, did a warm start and drove it for an hour, like the single with the resonator (before it started to drone) it sounded great (a bit less low than the single) . This morning I wanted to see how the cold start was and OMG it's so freaking loud this thing not gonna work. Those LT headers even with high flow cats are a PITA to sound civilized on cold start...


I guess I'll switch back to the 22" Magnaflow dumped for now...

The only loud muffler that will not drone is Corsa but some people do not like the sound.
Borla Touring not as loud but will be less likely to drone.
