Hi all!

Had a few questions if anyone can help me out.

I bought a lifted 2013 Ram.

hrfntz.jpg

I love it! 22k on the odometer and still smells new.

Ok so here are my questions.

1: It has an rcx(rough country) lift. I only know this from the "rcx" on the front diff spacer. I was told it was probably a 4" lift by the salesman and I think I mostly agree but sometimes it just feels higher. For the record it has 35x12.50r20 m/t mtz's and RBP 20" wheels. I wish they were reverse color(black with chrome) but i digress. When I look at some of the aftermarket parts on the front suspension nothing looks like its taller than 4". Is there a way to identify this kit for sure?

My second question is how are the speedometers in these trucks adjusted? As far as I can tell my speedo is dead on. I downloaded a gps speedo app and they seem to match. I thought I read on this site somewhere that the speedo cannot be adjusted to accommodate larger than 33" tires without a tuner? 90's muscle car days we could change the "gear" in the tailshaft. How am I to assume this was done?

Thanks in advance for any response! I appreciate the time!

That looks like it would be the 6in lift and I don't believe there is anything besides a tune that could reset the speed

Post up some pictures of the lift kit front and rear. That will definitely help determine what it is. Measuring the fender heights will also help determine exactly how large it is. From the picture my hunch is that it is in fact a 4" lift but it's hard to tell for sure without seeing more. It could have Bilsteins on it providing more lift as well.

The speedo/odometer has to be reprogrammed in the computer. Gone are the days where there's a gear in the tailshaft that can be changed. The 4th gen Rams speedo sensor is on the back diff housing and reads off a toothed gear on the carrier.

It's close..I think maybe a 4" though. Measure from the ground to the bottom of the wheel well. A 6" lift should measure 45"-45.5" in the front wheel wells.

The previous owner probably had a dealer change the speedo. They charge anywhere from 100-300 for that

Thanks for the replies! That is just what I was looking for.

I measured the fenders front and rear.
My truck is parked on my gravel driveway and I kicked snow out of the way to measure so its not exact.
Front 45.5"
Rear 46"

Here are some pics. Forgive me if I missed any key components.

That looks like a 6 inch lift because of the track bar bracket, I dont think the 4 inch lift comes with that. I could be wrong though.

Yep that's a 6". I have a 5" and my truck measures 44" up front and 45" in the back

Yup, definitely a 6" RCX lift. It looks like it has a preload spacer on the strut as well to give the front end a little more lift and level out the truck. I know the 6" RCX kit I put on my 1500 didn't have that preload spacer but I installed Bilstein 5100's to level it out and had similar measurements to what you posted.

Hand held tuner and the dealer can handle the speedo change but if it is dead on with the gps on you phone it's already been done. If you ever change the tires and you want to change the speedo again you can buy handhelds designed just for speedo recalibrating for about half the price of a tuner.

OK. Good to know! I was worried if there was already a "tune" installed that it would interfere with my plans of ordering a diablo with the hemifever tune from moes. but....thats for another thread!

Thanks to everyone for the responses! :favorites13:
