New member here, just purchased a 2011 Ram 1500 SLT which I'll pickup in a few days. Question is, the truck came with the towing package, but no factory installed brake controller, and looking here it appears that if my truck has the two underdash connectors, I can install the factory brake controller pretty easily. But many times I see it mentioned that the trucks computer has to be reflashed in order to see the brake controllers readout on the display on the dashboard, is that infact true? And if so, exactly what do you see on the dashboard display? And, if the computer isn't reflashed, will the brake controller still work (but I just won't see it on the dash display?) Any info at all that you can add about this would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, mines was the same but I install a factory controller that I bought from wholesale factory that went right in the place on the side. I haven't had my re-flash and you don't really need to unless you just want to pay the $50.00 to $130.00 dealership charges, I can read the display on the controller and be done with it.

well that answers my question, cause it looks pretty easy to install myself, I just didn't want to have to bring it to a dealer. And for me seeing the info on the dashboard isn't needed.

Yep, that's is what I'm talking about, I being having my in for about 6 to 8 months and they controller still work and light up when I turn mine head light on, so why do I need to read it in my evic, you just set it when you hook it up and you're done.
