Brake fluid spec.

My brake fluid looks black plus to add that its hydroscopic it hasn't been changed in 4 years and 50k miles.
I'd rather at least use the baster method to drain reservoir and top up and then keep doing so for a few hundred miles until fluid goes clear. What brake fluid should I buy?

The required brake fluid type may be noted on the lid of the master cylinder res. If not there..then for sure it should be noted in the owners manual under fluids and levels section. DOT3 or DOT4 would be my guess,..very much standard issue for mos automotive brands. Although your turkey baster method will at least change out the volume in the res. I'd recommend that you or your tech of choice perform a brake system flush to sweep the lines to each caliper. Brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbs water) which in the end can damage brake system components. If you flush the system on a semi regular basis you will help prevent moisture build up.

Don't have to say this but I will. Brake fluid will remove paint from surfaces. Do not allow split fluid any time to sit in contact with painted surfaces that you care about. Flush with water. If shop towels or shop rags come in contact with brake fluid be sure to throw them out so as not to use them on surfaces which might end up with a damaged paint finish. You know the drill...use it then loose it.

Just checked my 2018 manual. FCA recommend DOT 3 but DOT 4 is acceptable if DOT 3 is not available.
