At over 91500 miles I felt it was time to do a brake job for the first time . The Ram is a 2012 1500 I brought new and I feel that I take better than average care of it , But I live in N.J. and I would really like to know what kind of crap they are spreading on the roads here in Snowy weather , Right above the rear axle on the left side is a pair of brake line connectors , These connectors are mounted in a plastic holder , These connectors were almost rusted right thru and I'm pretty sure they would not have lasted much longer , The condition of the rest of the brake system was pretty good , The 8 pads still had about 3/16" of meat left on them and when I rebuilt the calipers there was NO internal corrosion , I did have to replace the front rotors due to rust . My warning is watch those connectors , Ed

Probably calcium chloride, it's awful stuff for vehicles. It stays seems to stay damp longer than rock salt spray, it also creeps in to crevices and wiring harnesses and wrecks all the things.

i have a 2014 sport with 85000 miles on it. two weeks ago, i was pulling down the drive and my foot went to the floor. Brake fluid reseviour was half empty. got under and checked the lines and the lines to the rear breaks were rusted and ******* all over the place. I live in Southern Maryland where we don't get a lot of snow. Most of the treatments is brine pre-treat. it cost $1459.15 to replace the lines and tubes. Stealer said it was because i haven't driven it much in the past couple of years (i drive my wrangler most of the time). I get it but its not like it was a 2000. Just glad it wasn't more.

I had the same experience with my '06 2500HD GMC several years ago while towing my bassboat to the lake. Fortunately I had just stopped at the front entrance to the state park when my pedal went to the floor without any warning. It was a North Carolina vehicle before I brought it into the salt zone. It cost me about $900 to have all the lines replaced.

That was before, now I keep everything coated in LPS3.

Isnt it funny how if you put a truck together based on what the dealers charged...and I'm mostly talking parts... our trucks would probably cost about 150,000.00 to build from parts.... much, much more if you added labor.

Yup, I picked up two bolts from the Ram Dealer here back in July for my tow hooks. $10 each!
