Have a 2016 Ram 1500 5.7- Has the standard equipment LED lights. After I press and release the brake pedal. I get a right rear warning light out. I replaced both back tail lights. Both work and the turn signal works. But the other problem is when you turn the right blinker on, it flashes busy. Left is fine. So heard about the 3rd brake light issue. I had a few LEDs out. So I change it with a newer style that came with a resistor. I still can't get the Right Rear tail light out, warning to go away. I also check my side mirror puddle lights. They all work. When I disconnet the right rear light (that works) the warning goes away and the fast flashing right turn goes to normal. I am can't seem to figure this out.
Maybe the 3rd brake light doesn't have enough resistance? or could the puddle lights cause and issue?

I am going to put this out so someone might learn from this Brake Waring light issue.
Original the problem was a Warning message; Right Rear Brake light out. And a quick flashing right turn light on the instrument cluster. All the lights work and flash like they are supposed to do outside. I replaced the rear tail lights with new LED lights. This is a Laramie that came stock with LED's. So no issues there with having the LED's. I still was not fixing the issues of the Warning Light message. So read where the 3rd brake light would throw the same Warning message: "Right Rear Tail light out". So had the darling Wife step on the brakes. There where a couple of led lights out on the 3rd brake light. So replaced it with a new light design. Thought why not upgrade if I have to replace it. So replaced the 3rd brake light. Still had the same Warning message.... Thought it might have been the new light not being comparable. So next I removed the new rear tail lights. Switched the LH with the RH. Plugged them in to see if the problem would follow the light. They both have the same connector. Sure enough, the Rear Right message was clear and now the Left Tail light is out. So come to find out the RH light was bad from the manufacture. So sent them back. I put the old tail lights back on. Started the Ram up, and no messages:33: So the original problem was the 3rd brake light was out, not the RH tail light. So problem was fix by replacing the 3rd brake light. I was actually creating my own problem by installing the bad new tail lights. Man I hate that when a new part creates a new issues.

I had this problem after replacing my LED tail lights with aftermarket (2020 1500). "Left turn signal out." It was driving me crazy! It "dinged" and the dash lit up nearly every time I hit the brake. Everything worked perfectly, but the warning was going off and I'd get hyper blink inside for 2 months. Dealer told me there's nothing they could do. It was bc the system didn't like my aftermarket tail lights (voltage blah, blah, blah). I was desperate!

SOLVED... I was low on fuel. the "Low fuel" warning light kicked on. "Left turn signal out" light stopped. I was afraid to refuel, but of course I eventually did. The warning never went off again. I don't know why, but I'm telling you that's what happened. Give it a try!

And try having that problem as a professional technician, like me. :)

OMG....the truck has a mind of its own. Love the truck. But this electrical issue is driving me nuts. Now the rear back up light warning light comes on, but it works. And another issue, which is the same issue as before. I can be at a stop light with the right turn signal on and all of sudden it starts to flash fast. But the tail light works. You can turn it on and flashes fine. Then out of the blue with it on, starts to flash fast and the warning light comes on. And some times its starts off flashing fast then goes back to flashing normal. I don't know what less it could be. Next would be to replace the tail lights connectors. What do you think?

Stop using the parts cannon approach!
Troubleshooting and analysis will teach you skills and save you money.

I would be checking the integrity of all common grounds in proximity to the tail lights and BCM.

A poor ground will behave erratically, just as you have described.

Oh I agree with you on the analysis. I had already check all the grounds and they are good to go. So I am leaning towards the connectors. If it was a bad ground the light wouldn't even work. The lights work and blink like they should outside. Its just inside it blinks fast and shows a warning message the light is out. crazy. Just all the lights work like they should.

A crappy connector or chaffed wiring is also possible but don't think a flakey ground won't create the same issue.

This isn't a simple analogue circuit, it's part of a complex rolling microcomputer with interconnected modules.

Personally and for the time required, I would prove all grounds with an ohm meter while moving the wires.

Clip one meter lead to a clean & solid ground with the other lead connected to the lamp connector socket. Then gently move the wiring harness from one end to the other, at least what is accessible.

I prefer the progressive approach. Start with the easiest and progress to the more complex or time-consuming efforts.

Some folks prefer to stampede through the easy stuff and jump into the more complex stuff.

I had this problem but it was my front right turn signal on my 19 Laramie Longhorn. Turned out to be an internal periodic short that was causing the message. The turn signal would work periodically then error out with hyper flashing at the cluster and the turn signal would go out. The dealer replaced the LED headlight assembly. It’s been about a week and no more error message.

Sounds like a solid plan of attack. Crazy, back in the day when a light went out, it was out. Now if you have a couple of led's in the light go out it still works. But throws an error code cause the resistance has changed.

Sounds like this is going to take awhile to find. Wonder if I have other lights going out which causes the warning light to come on. They all look like they are working fine.

Check 3rd brake light on rear of cab. I've been told by dealer mechanic that they cause problems. I've had same issue with dash messages and hitting brake tells me turn signal is out, when it works fine. I did replace with new one. Message stopped but my battery keeps draining. So I'm on to that 3rd brake light. But I have a canopy to remove first. But then my front parking sensors won't stop beeping when I hit brake. (It's dry out and nothing in front of me.)And switch won't turn them off. It's like one issue moves into the next. Best of luck.
