How do I remove my headlamp if the retainer clip is missing? I've removed the bolts and it's still snug. I'm scared to push it out in fear of breaking something else.bbf750392989e742582c452b41c85f46.jpg

That doesn't look broken.
You push up on the white clip to free the headlight, that clip is in the released position now.

That's just the clip for reference. Mine is definitely broken/not there.

If it isn't there, it isn't holding your light in place. The ball socket is probably dry and holding tight. Mine were a bear to get out the first time, smeared a little vaseline on them and they come out much more easily now.

I use a wide plastic trim tool between the fender and headlight to pop them loose.

I just broke my drivers side clip while removing the headlight assembly to install LEDs (probably in part due to the butt freezing cold temps outside). As an aside, I loathe plastic fasteners anyways - they get brittle over time and they always tend to break on me when doing any kind of engine compartment work.

Here’s my question though, is this cheap piece of plastic really doing anything to hold the light assembly in place since its held on with 2 other bolts? Please don’t misunderstand, I’ve ordered a replacement one and will install it anyways, but am curious more as a discussion/thought experiment whether or not this clip is actually that useful. Since there’s an access panel in the wheel well already anyways, seems like a bolt would have been a better approach IMO.

Never mind, I see it’s true function. Subtle, but straightforward. I still stand by my comments about plastic retainers though...

Hey Vman, I'm in a similar spot, broke mine changing a bulb.. Have a replacement on order. Curious to know what the "true function" is other than just locking things in place.....

Did you get the bolts out in the front? You may need to loosen that side of the grill also.
