Kicker hands DOWN !!

Kicker sucks...

I wanted to keep it under or around $2500 and here's what I did:

1. Kept the REC/NAV factory head unit.

2. Kenwood Excelon XR-4S main amp

3. Audio Control LC6-i line out converter with summing

4. Hertz HSK-165 2 way component front speakers

5. Hertz HCK-165 2 way coaxial rear door speakers

6. PacAudio C2A-CHY amplifier integration harness

7. JL 121W1v2-4 12" subwoofer

8. JL XD300/1 subwoofer amp

The Hertz speakers are not cheap. But, they work so well with the amp that I had to have them. Another, less expensive, choice for speakers would be the Infinity Reference or Infinity Kappa speakers.

Oh...did I mention Kicker sucks?

After having multiple kicker subs blow out on me for no reason (never even had them turned up remotely high), I am no longer a kicker person, except for their amps which I still have faith in. I say JL for subs and Kenwood for speakers and kicker or kenwood for an amp

Mine wasn't huge, but I run a kicker amp and sub thru the stock system and have been happy with it.

Volume doesn't blow subs, distortion does. Not saying that was your particular case, but I wanted to point out you don't have to turn them up to blow 'em.

I learned that when I was young(er)...Luckily by the time I had two 15" L7's, I was more well versed in these things lol.

Nowadays if I was going to put in a sub in my truck, I'd probably put in two 12" Type R's...or one W7 maybe...if I had the money.

Convert, for now.

small
Two things kill a sub.
Pushing past mechanical limits and distortion (DC) the coils...both which are not a common manufacture issue, as we dont install them. People port them then don't realize max power ratings drop due to being in a ported enclosure. Or, lack of current to feed an amp, or raising the gain or bass boost up...which will fry the coils. Woofers dont just blow expectantly.

When I do decide to do my system it will be around $2500, and will include pioneer double DIN with Nav and blue tooth, kicker speakers all around, rear 10" flip down monitor for the kid, pioneer pro champion series 10" sub in a custom box and havnt decided on amp... Kind of a mis matched system but will work well and do everything I want it to

Ima cheap *******. I try to get deals on everything. My head unit is a Alpine i got for free from a buddy that parted out his car. I have a Alpine 600 watt amp pushing 2 JVC 10in subs that i traded for a pit bike. The rest of the speakers are whatever the previous owner put in. Sounds decent and im content with it.

I'm slowly building my system. I have a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH installed now for my head unit. Saving money for my door speakers (still havent figured out what i want to get, but i'm leaning towards some JBL 6x9) for my quadcab, then my sub at the end. I do have 2-12" alpines, but i don't know if it will fit without eating up all of my storage space under the seat. I want to just due 1-12' but it will elavate one seat higher then the other. Tough decisions to make for me....lol

good point.....that's not what this site is about or for, but unfortunately people tend to bash products to push their opinion.
