Busted tailgate cap/spoiler

Alrighty. I thought it would just Pop off like most plastic thingies. NOPE! If anyone wants to remove like I did to clean make sure the remove the cover on tailgate and reach inside to squeeze the tabs. I’m pretty sure that’s how you do it without breaking all the tabs [emoji1787]

Also, there was a surprising amount of dirt under there and the paint was pretty scuffed up. Probably how those rusty tailgates start [emoji2369].

Anyways, I bought some 15lb Velcro and will use that to attach my “spoiler” lol. It sits under my tonneau cover but done want it rattling around. If anyone is interested I can follow up with how it’s sticks and lasts.


Question time!

Has anyone removed the plastic cap in the top of the bumper? I wouldn’t mind giving that a cleaning

I pln on using one of the sftermarket ones floating around in the best under $100 thread....protects larger area, flat so no water pooling.

Since there is no real option to run the tailgate or bumper without those covers I wouldn’t worry about removing and cleaning below them unless you are worrying about longevity from keeping the truck till the wheels fall off.

If that is the case I would even look at having that area done with ppf before putting the caps back on

Ha ha ha ha ha. That’s the plan! I wanna drive a vehicle into the ground at least once in my life. And with the large depreciation on this truck and the global market I couldn’t think of a better time and better truck. Hence why I’m going through these steps.

Unless gas prices get completely out of hand I’ll keep her till wheels fall off.

Gotcha! I might just put plasti dip on it with a paint brush and see how it looks next year. Just do the parts that rubbed through the paint for now. I’m assuming the Velcro will prevent the plastic from rubbing as much

Yeah silly design for sure. Before I had my tonneau cover I would quickly pull the handle and let the tailgate assist do the rest. I guess people with no assist get a wet hand? But at least the design gives us 6.3% better fuel mileage and 0.34 HP gain

hahahaah! funny about tailgate assist. i pick mine up on tuesday. i put the hood version by deezee on my tacoma and never had a problem with them in 7 yrs. it was the best mod that truck ever had.

and yes, i got a wet hand.

Yep, I pulled up the expanding push in pins with my old tool and removed the tailgate access cover to get my hands and needle nose in and squeeze the fasteners that hold the protector to the top.

Was able to reuse the push pins on the Genos protector. Just kept the ones that came with it as spares.
So far I'm liking the Genos protector.
