So for those of y’all that has this transfer case and still off-roads your truck where you’re using four-wheel-drive a lot, have any of you worn those clutches out causing slippage from that constant engaging, disengaging, and re-engaging all the time to the front drivetrain?

I don’t take my truck off road and really the only time I use my four-wheel-drive is on slick roads in the winter time or I might push the auto 4x4 button in a heavy rain storm but other than that, that’s it.

Talk to @Brandon-w about one of his lock up switches.

Should never use 4v4 on pavement if you are worried about longevity with the only exception of snow, and then if it is covered the road. Everytime your tire grabs it is wear on drivetrain, rain isn't enough to make that a safe thing. Locking it is great for longevity if you are offroad, but it a real bad idea to use that in the rain.

awd is ok because it adjusts power needed, if you lock it you are full power.

Yeah, I knew about the little switch kit he makes that corrects that problem so that with this transfer case, you can actually have a traditional four-wheel-drive like operation, I was just curious if you didn’t have that kit and you still drove a lot off road, if those clutches would wear out pretty quick.

Basically just to see if it was true or was proven true that if you have this transfer case that you really shouldn’t treat it like you have a traditional style transfer case for that very reason kinda like how the corporate limited slip rear ends aren’t made for real off-road, that they really only designed them to just get you out of your driveway.

That’s why I said heavy rains, when there’s actually quite a bit of water on the road between your tires and the pavement.

Probably doesn’t matter anyway because for the few times I’ve ever done that, I don’t think my front end has ever engaged anyways. Those BFG all-terrain’s I once had for a very short while after I bought the truck and especially these Michelin defenders, they do exceptionally well in these heavy Oklahoma monsoons.

Dealer put one transfer case in my truck under warrenty, then told me to quit shifting it from 4 auto to 2 wheel drive under full power at the track. That's when i pulled everything ahead of the transfer case, including front diff/driveshaft and cv's and did enough work to the rear suspension, and put enough tire under the truck,it'd hook at the track, lol. Not quiet your issue, but that's when i learned the 44-44 doesn't like being shifted when your foots planted on the floor, lol

I never wore one out, I've owned a couple.
But i never kept the trucks much beyond 100,000 miles.
Back in those days I did use 4WD quite a bit during winters, we had a lot of snow back then and I drove 48 miles round trip to work each day.
Also used when pulling boats out of public ramps.
