I used AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle ATF . It is compatible with MOPAR 68089195AA. Bring it up on their website and it has the various part numbers on the back of container. I bought the quart bottle @ $ 18.69 each. The flex quart package is $ 21.69 each. You will need 2 quarts as transfer case requires 3 pints.

Valvoline has updated their website and apparently changed the formula in their Dex/Merc ATF to meet the requirements of most BW transfer cases. I have a 2015 1500 with the BW44-44 Auto 4X4 transfer case. I changed mine last month and used their MULTI-VEHICLE (TCF) CONVENTIONAL TRANSFER CASE FLUID. At that time, that was the only fluid they had that was compatible with my TC (only up to 2015). Now they also list their DEX/MERC (ATF) AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID as meeting the requirements of all BW44-44's as well as the newer BW48's.

I have an 18 with the 44-44 (auto 4wd option) that takes the spendy mopar fluid 68049954AC (now AD). I went with Redline MT LV which is compatible, but it seems I've lost a few MPG after the switch. Has anyone else noticed anything similar? I've read guys picking up MPG by switching to Amsoil SS, but haven't seen any feedback on losing MPG.

I have doubts the transfer case fluid change had any thing to due with loss of mpg, its more likely due to winter blended gas and your cold winter temps

I would tend to agree, except that I changed it two weeks ago when it was already cold and using winter gas blend. I only thought of it after remembering someone saying they thought they picked up mpg when they switched to amsoil.

It engages 4wd just fine, so dunno. Will monitor for a bit longer.

If your using 4wd more on those cold slick MSP roads that is most likely why your seeing lower mpg, I'm speaking from experience from living in Mason City IA for over 15 years giving me a very good idea why 4wd will lower your mpg numbers along with the sub zero temps ya see in the winter time.

I'm not even using it, in 2WD. Will keep monitoring.

I'm using Redline C+ ATF in my BW44-44 transfer case with no issues, and no difference in mpg's.

The BW44-44 takes a different fluid starting in 2016. Not saying it wouldn't work though, and probably would being that Amsoil SS ATF seems to work.

It takes so little…only about 1.5 qts…why not just use what is designed for it?

I just went down this rabbit hole because when I get a new car I change all the fluids. Did the brake fluid,Rear and front Diff and transmission fluid but then ended up stuck trying to find transfer case fluid. I emailed Redline,Mobile etc and none would say they had a fluid that would replace the 68089195AA. I know lots of people are using ATF and it used ATF prior to 2016. I have my theories that they changed it to get 1 mpg better, make it lighter, add some other stuff, and that the ATF may be better, but with only a quart and a half called for, I bit the bullet and bought OEM. If any of the manufacturer support lines had said yes, this replacement that fluid, I would have gone that way, but guess they don't want to do the R&R to say that for an extra sale or two a year when most people will try it without them saying it. I am probably a ******** for paying 30 dollars extra per quart for OEM, but it's once every 100k.h well. It's gone up 20+ dollars, it looks like, in the last 3 years. This also sent me down a rabbit hole looking at the fluid price for the Acura we have had since 2015, and its OEM transmission fluid and dual pump OEM rear diff fluid have only gone up 2 dollars in the last 10 years and only 30-40 cents in the last two years.
