Actually have my 2018 Ram 2500 C4B (NHTSA 24V-896) recall completed!!!

I don't normally post on the forums, but love the information I can find here. Thank you all for the immeasurable help you have provided to so many people like me.

Many folks are frustrated waiting for Stellantis to contact you about the new HCU being available, I was in the same situation. The week before last, I decided just to see if ANY WEBSITES showed the parts available online. I found a some Mopar stores that actually did and sent online requests to a couple of dealers parts departments that said the parts were available. I got positive responses from a few and they stated that I could come in and get the part or have it shipped. One of the Parts Departments was the Dealership I have used for previous recalls and some service. A very nice employee sent me an email indicating that the correct part for my VIN and the NHTSA Recall (24V-896)/Manufacturer Recall (C4B) was indeed in stock and available. I called her and asked if she could hold it for me while I contacted the service department to set up the recall service. She did so and sent me the internal Service Order number to show that the part was being held.

I was able to schedule the service last Monday, and provided the Service Order number for the held part. The advisor said that would be their first performed recall for this issue. It was a couple days to get it completed, as apparently the Technician had to get the recall procedure from Chrysler.

I have had no issues (lights/error codes) in the past week.

The NHTSA Recall document is the only one that I found that had the part numbers listed on it and that is what I searched for in the dealership inventories.

Involved Components :
Component Name 1 : HCU
Component Description : Brake HCU
Component Part Number : 68143491AA / 68195569AA

Bottom line, at least for me, I had to find and reserve the part myself to have it available to schedule the recall repair.

I don't know if it will help others, but
Best Wishes and Good Luck!

Every dealership I call says they only have the fix for the 3500 cab chassis. I called Chrysler Care, and they told me the same. The HCU was already replaced once in 2021 and now is failing again. Just curious if when you called the dealership did they say anything to you about only being a part for cab chassis? Super curious how you got yours fixed, when I keep getting the run around. I’ve got a 17’ 3500. I put my vin in mopar online store and it clearly states the part numbers you listed fit my vin number, yet the dealership just keeps saying it’s only for 3500 cab chassis, which makes zero sense. Chrysler tried to tell me they still don’t have a release date for the parts. Yet they are listed on mopars website. Super frustrated as all my abs lights and traction control lights are coming on.

They didn't read down far enough. The 2500 is Vehicle cat 4 and is indeed included in the recall. Tell em to read it again, in full.

Both local dealers told me the same thing Dec 16, 2025; no part is available for my VIN. FCA customer service said the no part is available yet but engineers are in the final testing phase. I asked how long before the replacement part is available? FCA said "I dont know". Maybe one to two months. My truck's ABS warning lights arent inconsistent. Some days nothing. Other days, briefly for a few miles. Other times nearly non-stop. My wife rode in truck last week. Begged me to make it stop making the warning noise. My reply was, no fix. I guess I need to buy a new truck :)

Hello. Thank you so much for sharing this info. I don't see where/whether you mentioned whether or not the dealership paid for the part(s) and servicing. Did they? Where did you the letter that you attached? I do hope you're still "out here," so I can find out the answers to my questions. We only bought our used 2018 in Apr 2025 (I wasn't sold on buying it with a recall but hubby did so fingers crossed) We were thinking it would be fixed by them/receive a letter, timely. Nope. NHTSA was a waste of my time. I thought they enforced these recalls but they do not; my gosh, someone could die! So, I got on here, like you I usually don't do forums. Very informative! Our local dealer's only reply is that they haven't heard anything about fixing these. I will attempt what you did; call around for the part, etc. Again, thank you for your time in putting your info together.

Just thought I'd throw in what my dealership told me today.
The parts are available, but repairs are only authorized and paid for on 3500's right now.
If I want to buy the part and pay them to install it, it's my choice. I could then fight with Stelantis to get reimbursed.
Side conversation with the parts guy...there are so many 2500's with this problem that he thinks they want to get more parts in the system before they open up the flood gates. It's the same part for 3500 & 2500's

Well, I decided to have them fix if and pay $750. I'll fight for reimbursement later. Pulling an RV across country in winter just isn't worth the wait for them to add 2500's to the approval list. If I have an issue without antilock brakes on ice/snow, I'm sure it will cost me more than the $750.

Is that $750 all in, parts and labour?

I wish you good luck with the reimbursement, and thanks for sharing.
I think this is the smart move. Spend a few $ and ensure your safety.
I can appreciate the desire for ABS, especially while towing.

Yes, just plus tax. I'm in upstate NY.
LOL, I miss cruise control the most. Trying to keep it speed up and down hills for 6 hours is a *****.

Be happy you don't live in Ontario, where we pay 13% harmonized tax on most items.
Or Quebec. I think the harmonized ripoff there is 15%.

When I was stationed in Germany the rate was 15%, looks like it is 19% now: But being Military on SOFA you can get the VAT taken off on purchases if you jumped through the 3 hoops needed> Now I have no idea if the process has been streamlined since I did it to buy my 13' German Shrunk from German Furniture Store back in 1985.

ADDED: of course in states you have state sales tax: In TX it is 6.25% with added locality of 2%, so anything I/you buy here has tax of 8.25%, but there are exceptions and rules on how all applied, especially on major purchases like a home and/or vehicle. TX does do a no tax weekend usually before school starts for the year, for school items and such.

What I was told about my 2018 3500, by the local dealership, about a month ago, was that there were 4 sets of build dates covering the VIN numbers for each of those particular sets of build dates/groups. Supposedly, according to the service manager I spoke to, the first 3 sets of build dates the repair/parts/program or what ever is ready, but that my truck is in the 4th or latest build set and that the repair/parts/program wasn't released yet. I call BS, but what can I do?

Well, I broke down and paid for it myself. 2 months, 1500 miles and everything works great... cruise, ABS, and traction control. Came to $800 with tax. I just couldn't take that ding ding ding all day.
Does anybody know how I go about starting to get reimbursed from the manufacturer?

The two of you can try sending a PM to @RamCares for assistance.

Include your VIN, vehicle particulars, and the Safety Recall # as shown in post #5.

I have a 2018 3500. They keep telling me no parts available as of 4-26. They have had me in a rental since 8-25! I'm driving a 2026 Ram on their dime and am getting reimbursed weekly for the rental. I'm wondering when they'll finally just buy my truck and put me in a new one...

Could you please clarify?

Are you wondering if the dealership will buy back an 8-year-old truck?

Looks like mine just failed, getting the constant service dings/lights. Dealer quoted me $1500 to fix it with used parts if they can get them and get reimbursed when the fix finally is approved. Very frustrating at the beginning of summer when I'll be pulling my boat and RV all over the place!
