Whatever setup you choose, please don't go hipster and start calling it "overlanding". It's called camping.

Lol no worries about that, its always been and always will be camping to me! Since i last posted i picked up a small 12'camper near me. Thing was pretty rough but ive been tinkering every weekend on it. Bought it for 250$ and im about 800$ total into it- including purchase. I put new wheels on it, caulked everything in sight, new safety chains, new tongue jack, new marker lights. Inside i did alot of renos, gutted and rebuilt the rear of the camper. Then decided it was time for a total redo. So heres some pics, its still a work in progress, im trying to find a fridge for it but people think their 1905 3 way fridges are made of gold its ridiculous. Just need to redo my floor, make a table, add some trim and possible install my converter(might do it next year).
Heres some befores...

If a bear is determined to get in a camper, they can get in regardless it is cloth, aluminum or fiberglass. They have been known to rip car doors off to get to food. I suggest keeping a shotgun handy.
i just exercise my second amendment and keep the trigger finger ready and no worries

I plan on using my RTT that I had on my Tacoma, on the RAM. made some bed bars on the cheap for it last weekend, like in this you tube vid linked below. I know, RTT's are not for everybody, but it works for me. quick setup / teardown, off the ground. but they are not cheap :(

Had this camper for a couple of years now. Been great. Actually yet to tow it with my 1500 but it should be just fine. Might be upgrading after a couple more years to an imagine 2150 as I really like the layout of that trailer.

We, the family of 3 of us, use Thermarest Dreamtime XLs for sleeping on. Expensive, but very comfortable and worth each penny. Without them, we would have had to give up camping up altogether due to bad sleep and aches and pains, so they’re a good investment in my eyes. You can find more recommendations on camping sites.

My next project is to build us a camper. My wife is disabled and can't (or has an extremely difficult time) climb stairs. So I'm going to get a drop back trailer and just build in a "people area" up in the front. Put in a wall and sliding door, a bunk bed for me and a guest, a home-style hospital bed for the wife, and we're off to the woods! I can put my hunting golf cart and her mobility scooter in the back. Home made toy hauler. I can order the trailer with two front side doors and a roof AC so exit safety and climate control are covered.

We have looked at a couple of toy-haulers, the Keystone Outback 324CG travel trailer (can't haul my golf cart but she can still drive her scooter up inside) and the one that currently has our eye, the Keystone Impact 330 toy hauler. The big thing on the Impact is if Keystone can do a bit of handicapped modification and install a shower instead of a tub. I have looked at the 5th wheel version of the Impact, which already has a shower, but then we're back to wifey having to climb stairs.

Currently, when going hunting (wifey doesn't go) I just load the golf cart up into the back and sleep in the back seat using this

Not ideal but it works for now!

I love my toyhauler because I just fold everything up out of the way and just stack my camping gear in the cargo hold; outdoor kitchen, coolers, chairs, rugs, etc. When I get into place everything gets set up outside because other than sleeping and morning coffee, all our time is spent hanging out outside.
