Hello forum, this is my first post. I have a 2012 1500 Big Horn Crew, to which I attempted to add an amp/sub. The radio is the RES 130, with no factory amplifier. I pulled the radio and piggybacked my LOC on the rear speaker wires of the factory harness, then tested. The radio came on, but the volume knob did not function and there was no sound. Here is where the Halloween spookyness comes in: I pulled the LOC off and got full control of every function of the radio (except AM/FM), but only for 3 seconds. I timed it... 3 seconds on, 2 seconds off, repeat. The AM/FM has never worked but I don't care about that anyway.

Troubleshooting so far:

IOD fuse pull
Pos&neg battery unhooked for 30min
Computer reset outlined here: http://www.ramforum.com/f44/4th_gen_pcm_reset-17703/#post327586
Checked for shorts behind the radio
Tested each speaker
Tested each wire of the harness with multi-meter

It seems as if the CANBUS did not like the LOC and knows it isn't there now, but it's stuck in a "check-and-see" loop with the radio. All other interior/exterior fuctions that run on the CANBUS are unaffected and working properly.

I hope I am not leaving anything out. If anyone can help or offer advice or knows exactly how to resolve this I am all ears. I should note that I am not interested in going to the stealership at all unless a Chrysler mechanic responds to this post saying that a flash or something will definitely fix this. I also have a new radio / PAC adapter / harness etc picked out to replace the RES 130 but I won't pull the trigger until I am sure the issue won't persist across radios.

are you 100% positive you actually grabbed the speaker signal and not some other wires? do you remember what wires you used?

Thank you for your response. Yes, I am sure I had the right wires. I was able to test each speaker individually, in 3 second spurts of course. I used the rear left and right speaker wires. The process of elimination with no speakers connected and then adding them back one at a time did nothing to change the issue.

what kind of loc did you use? how did you test polarity? could it have been wired out of phase?

If the canbus is searching and can't find the unit you should get a canbus error on your EVIC. 3 on, 2 off sounds like the amps in the radio are overloading and resetting.

I am pretty sure the canbus is just a search for the radio and hooking up an amp to your radio would have no effect on it..

Since you said your AM/FM does not work your radio already has issues and by attaching the amp it just pushed more problems to the surface. Bad radio getting worse.

Kenwood DPX501BT and Metra XSVI-6522-NAV with 2DIN dash kit and FM antenna adapter arrive Friday. I'll post the results of the swap after installation. I am both looking forward to and NOT looking forward to cutting out pieces of my dash.

many cars now days you have to remove some sort of plastic/metal behind the radio to fit an aftermarket in. its no big deal

If its anything like the 2015, its super easy to remove the metal. Take a small hacksaw and burn through the lower corners. Watch for sharp edges when done. Took about 1 min for both sides. Nothing you cut will be visible when done.

One more thing-On my 2015 with the metra harness, the amp turn on wire didn't work. Im not sure why I had the remote turn on hooked up to the metra in the first place, but the instructions said to. Anyways, I bypassed it and it was fine. I think you will be much happier with the new deck.

Installed in about 40min tonight. I used a Stanley knife to score a smooth line on the upper horizontal plastic from corner to corner and just retraced it until it cut through and fell off. For the metal bracket inside the dash I used tin snips and clipped right through the top corners as if they were butter. This way there was no metal dust all over. Clean install and the mounting kit was just a couple of screws and done. This unit sounds unbelievably better than the base radio, even with the stock speakers. Thank you guys for your help, I guess it was just the RES 130's time to go.

BTW Amazon has a deal right now that allowed me to get all of this for $112.00 shipped.
