2018 2500 I have the tailgate camera.. can I keep that and have the cargo camera? If so how would it be done

Yes, there are 3 camera inputs on the radio, would need to be flashed for the backup camera then pin in the cargo camera.

how do you switch between the two? normally from the factory if you have both one is in the screen and the other is in the mirror.

If you have the 8.4” screen they are both on the screen and you select which camera you want. If you put it in reverse it will be the backup camera, if you want the cargo camera you can turn it on at any time, it times out after few minutes or you click the X and turn it off

Does anyone know what settings to turn on in the bcm for the chmsl with camera ?
I purchased the cargo cam and the c4t camera harness from infotainment.com
I have the AE tool and was trying to save the 200 bucks going this route . Thanks and any input is very welcomed .

If you have the 8.4” screen they are both on the screen and you select which camera you want. If you put it in reverse it will be the backup camera, if you want the cargo camera you can turn it on at any time, it times out after few minutes or you click the X and turn it off

It was the infotainment cargo camera kit .
I excluded the genie so saved me like 200 bucks .
I used the AE tool to turn on the feature .
I have the cargo camera button showing on the screen and comes up as option to turn on when the truck is placed in Reverse
Camera should be in this week will the c4T harness .
I get the blue screen when I push the button as There is no camera connected yet .
When I get the CHMSL with camera installed and working I will post the vehicle config option I turned on .
I will also enable the led CHMSL to present.
Just didn’t do that yet as still using the original CHMSL light and was not sure if it would throw a code as the current would be higher probably with the stock light .

What year is your truck?

I was poking around the BCM with the AE tool on my 2013 the other day looking for the CHMSL setting and must have missed it or it's not there on mine. (Thought it would be in Veh.Config 1).

Let us know of anything weird pops up after turning it on with the AE. @DeereGuy reported some oddities popping up on the 8.4 radio screen after doing it on his (ie power fold headrest button, and something else) that caused him to end up getting the BCM reflashed and CHMSL activated by the dealer instead.

Okay .I will let you know what settings I turned on .
I received my led CHMSL and c4T harness today .
I will try and get it installed by the end of the week .
I Haven’t turned on the Led CHMSL to present yet .
I did the cargo camera present and no issues with oddities yet .
I have a 2016 ram 1500 slt .
I did the 8.4 upgrade with the auto climate Control .
Followed the awesome guide you had put out there to build the harness.
Took me like 8 hours to make and two attempts to get it right .

Hi Mike you are correct the CHMSL camera is in the vehicle config 1.
Like the fourth option done .
Then turned led CHMSL to present .
That is in CBC features tab .

So I got the CHMSL camera installed .The gasket that came with the new Chmsl is too thin and I thought could lead to future leaks .
I called infotainment and spoke to them about it and then they told me to call brand motion as well .
I spoke to tech support there and they said they would forward my concerns to engineering.
I ended up using some double sided 3m tape to make the overall gasket the same as the oem thickness.
Seems to be sealing better now .

No issues with oddities after I turned on the two bits with AE.

I also didn’t want the backup lines for the cargo cam so on the camera you can twist and solder the two greens wire leads together .
This makes the lines not appear .
Default backup lines appear .

So if there are three camera inputs on the radio ,then could use front camera and pin that into the radio harness ?
I did see a front camera option in the Bcm but didn’t want to play with that yet .
Would be nice to be able to buy a RCA cable With the two pins on the other end so we can populate the radio connector .
Then it could be a good DIY project .

What exactly is the AE tool? I'm guessing it's used to program the computer? I couldn't find much online about a RAM/Chrysler specific tool. I'm looking to add a front camera on my 2017 1500 and I was told I need a PAC bci-ch41 harness/computer and PAC VS41 camera switcher.

BCM= Body Control Module.
Layman's explanation: Stores your vehicle configuration (ie sales codes) that enable features on your truck to work. Can be accessed/changed using OBDII port via a dealer scan tool or to varying degrees aftermarket scan tools/serial interface devices.

AutoEngenuity makes one such tool with an chysler interface ($600) some of us have tried for various mods/installs. It can change some settings safely but we have have found out the hard way that it can screw up (corrupt) other settings in the BCM in addition to the ones you want to change ... And then can't fix without going to the dealer to reset back to factory config. Sometimes it can be really bad, ie change left hand drive truck to right hand drive (screws up the ABS). We have had one or two reports of people not being able to get their BCM reset by the dealer and had to get a new one ($$$). We don't recommend using it because of the risks.

skuppy069, just a reminder to be extremely careful changing things. The Ram BCM has options in there carried over from other vehicles that are not compatible with/intended for the ram and can cause serious issues ( ie front camera, and rear foglights).

Dang.... Now I am really confused ... I have a 2018 2500 Big Horn 4x4 .... Just got off the phone with Infotainment and they say they do not have a cargo camera yet for my 2018. Also, called the dealer and they looked up my VIN # and they said I could not add the cargo camera. I have a Truck Camper and am very anxious about getting a cargo camera to assist my loading the camper. What am i missing with this post ????

HELP.....dealer installed Cargo Light with a switch on the dash.....I have a 2018 2500 and due to the software dealer said they could only install a cargo camera the was controlled by the switch not the 8.4 display....help is there a software or hardware update that can allow the 8.4 display to choose the cargo camera...I can only use the camera in reverse with the switch ON...can not check the cargo bed while driving down the road to be sure cargo has not shifted....was the the only way to get a cargo camera on a Larime 2500 ????

Unfortunately it sounds like your dealer sent the truck to a local shop for an aftermarket setup.

Is this a factory 8.4 2500 with factory reverse cam?

Post a picture of your Cargo Cam/3rd brake light & this switch.

Open the switch panel and check the switch connections to see if it's an RCA video switch.

Remove the radio and see if they installed some sort of RCA T- harness between the truck and the radio.
