I have a 2018 Power Wagon with the 8” screen. My CarPlay worked fine until I upgraded my phone to a IPhone 17 pro and now CarPlay locks up. I use Waze for Navigation and it works for about 2 minutes and locks up. Same with Apple Music. The music still plays but the screen locks up and I can’t change songs. Any ideas what the problem is? is there an update for the radio?

This is exactly what I am dealing with on my 16 Pro Max running iOS 26.2. I have been on the phone with Apple over 2 days providing videos of this happening. They forwarded my videos to engineering for review and a solution. Check your phone and see if you catch it restarting when it’s plugged in to power or charging wirelessly as this is also a related problem. It doesn’t do this when running on its battery. I have factory reset my phone once and put the phone into DFU mode and restored, forced reset with no success. For now I disabled CarPlay in my truck and just connect via Bluetooth. The only way I have found to get CarPlay working is to plug the phone in and let CarPlay freeze, then I power down my phone wait 30 seconds before powering up and the unlock the phone after powering up and connect via my USB C cable or wireless depending on what connection you have. Then CarPlay works just fine. I have to do this every time I get in the truck.

IMO this is related to charging and or CarPlay since this is the only time this happens. If anyone has a iPhone don’t update to iOS 26.2, this all started after that.

I had this problem in the past and swapping out the cable, although it looked good, worked for me.

Good luck!

Cable swapping hasn’t worked. Plus I’m using the cable that came with my iPhone and it stays in my truck.

Have I phone pro 14 with os 26.2. No issues. Apps work on phone whether radio box, local stations wateva. Run maps and Google Maps all ok.
Bet it is the built in AI on the advanced phones. My 14 has no AI.

Currently in truck and testing so not talk out backside all good.

FTR;: plain Jane U Conn 4 radio. No Nav or 911 or any that junk.

CarPlay running fine. And I have low end Biggyhorn only connects CarPlay through cable.

This is not the first Apple charging issue that has popped up over the years with these trucks. Usually apple just works till it doesn't, then it takes a couple of software updates to fix the issue.

I’ll be glad when they figure this one out. My wife’s 14 Pro Max does the same thing in her 21 RAV4 and both our phones started doing this at the same time. Until then CarPlay is turned off in my truck.

I have CarPlay in my ‘22 Warlock. Phone is 16 pro with OS 26.2. So far no problems (knocking on wood) with CarPlay other than once in a blue moon, when I start my truck, CarPlay won’t automatically engage. I have to turn the truck off, open the door for a few seconds, close the door, restart the truck…and it works. And I must open the door for a few seconds (haven’t determined what the minimum number of seconds is, yet) or it doesn’t work.

Step #1: Get rid of that Rotten Apple. ;)
Step #2: Buy an Android. Problem solved. :D
Step 1: Ditch android
2: prayer all works out.

FTR: I have I phone 14 Pro. Not having any issues. Also I hope to not upgrade as new Apple Phones have built in AI which I do not have or want.

See post #6. I don’t think it is phone per se but built in AI that is causing issues IMHO.

If anyone is having the issue described here use this link to report it to apple and try to record it if possible by screen recording or a separate recording device so you can send it to Apple Engineers. The more that report this the quicker it gets resolved.

#78 is right, Apple is not really known for being user friendly

After I updated to OS 26.1 my iPhone 15 pro max started to work apple play wirelessly, before the update to get it to work I had to had to use the wired USB connection, my car play problems started after Ram did an update to the radio over a year ago, but once my phone update a few months back to OS 26 the phone instantly hooks up to the truck every time get in it, now I just pray that Ram does not do another update any time soon that will cause me to go back to USB wired hook up...

Possibly related, possibly not: I have a 24 Ram 2500 with both wired and wireless carplay. The waze and other GPS services on my iPhone kept locking up and going all screwy. I even posted on this forum about it. Recently the RAM dealership updated my iconnect software and this is where it's at. If I only connect wireless, it works fine. If I connect with the cable I have to have wifi and bluetooth turned off on the phone...and it works fine. If I connect with the cord but have these other connection services still turned on, it goes screwy. However, I can live with it now because I know how to make it work. Give these options a try and see if it helps.

Apple and Android both use for wireless (WIFi) for Maps and the stuff on the screen. For phone calls it uses Bluetooth. At least that is how they seem to work for me. The phone and the U-connect form an Ad-hock connection, then U-connect gives Apple, in this case, use of the screen to project what is on the phone. If you plug in the phone it is all supposed to be done over USB. Sometimes the Ad-hock connection still connects and will cause issues. Your best bet is to chose one or the other. If I need to charge my phone I use an old school 12V adaptor in the cigarette plug.

Don't you have, or did they get rid of it, a USB connector in the center console under the top cover. I use that to charge my phone. I hook into USB at front for Apple Car Play.

I don't have my Ram anymore, so I don't know if there was a connector there. I have always just used a lighter plug, because I knew it would not bother things.
