Yeah, I am not a fan of the new Ram looks. I fell in love with Ram back in 2010 when they first came out with the 4G grill. My best friend bought one and I've wanted one ever since. Just something about that leaning forward crosshair grill. The new ones look so boring and generic. I have no interest in a new model.Fords are definitely nicer looking.
Well I made the jump and just after Christmas put an order in for a loaded 2022 GMC Sierra SLT with the 3.0 Duramax. I know I can get North of 30K for my 2017 Ram and as a GM employee I get the GMC with my employee discount price. It's been a great truck but as a GM manager I do get a lot of grief for driving a non-GM vehicle and I do get tired of having to park out in the hourly workers lot when I visit plants driving a competitive vehicle. This is my first new GM vehicle since 2000 when I got my first Ram, but I was a Chrysler contractor then so it made sense for me.
I have always liked the Ford body styles especially the newest version (well 78-79 are my favorite). I have a 2020 Power wagon and figured it would grow on me but still butt ugly compared to the new SD's. rides nice tho so it has that going for it .Yeah, I am not a fan of the new Ram looks. My 2022 Chevy has automatic temperature control, but the knobs no longer have the digital readout due to GM conserving the chips for other parts of the truck. The salesman told me that I was lucky I had heated seats and the new Tahoe doesn't come with them anymore due to the chip shortage. According to the salesman GM only kicks back $200 to the buyer for not having heated seats.Sold my 18 back to the dealer. I paid $56k brand new. He gave me a check for $60k.
Ordered an identically optioned Ford for $66k (after 8 Rams in a row). Came in in 8 weeks.
I wanted a Denali, but I ordered a Ford because I read GM was deleting options to get trucks delivered.
Did not order a Ram because they refused to do anything to help my brother. I gave him my 2015 and the trans went at 66 months and 57,000 miles due to a well known problem. $6,200 repair. It had the 60month/100,000 mile warranty.
If the margin on trucks is 25% (or so I read), they lost out on a $16,500 profit for their short sightedness.
I don't think it is close to 25%. They actually did not lose anything as they just sold the truck to someone else. Unfortunately there is no shortage of buyers so what you did not buy someone else did and they have no excess inventory so they don't care.Sold my 18 back to the dealer. I paid $56k brand new. Why isn't it at the dealer to figure out?If I can't sort out my 2019HD (parasitic drain) I will get rid of mine.. This is my 3rd Ram diesel, loved my 2001, my 2008 dually,,Really like this 5th Gen but I have been fighting this dam parasitic power drain and its really ******* me off!
Yesterday I had to buy 2 new batteries--I only have 15k miles on this truck!!
I'm in central KY and our lots are shells of what they were 2 yrs ago. A couple weeks ago I drove thru my local dealership and they had 1 new Ram.What strange days we live in.
Passing car dealer lots and seeing them empty give me a real uneasy feeling. Seeing empty store shelves which is common in 3rd world countries does not bode well.
Clean used trucks are in high demand. I checked the value of my 2014 RAM and it is around $20k. Even for these days that seem a bit high. But there are other things I'm thinking about. I really wouldn't mind banking the cash. I bought the truck when there was a great need to haul things and pull a trailer. Those things have kind of run their course. I work from home so I don't drive it much. Literally I'm driving it to the county trash collection center once a week. Maybe 10 miles round trip. For most all errands we take the wife's 300. For basic pickup truck duties; I have a '79 Ramcharger that needs a transmission. I can have that on the street again investing about $500 in it. Reason I've not done that yet is I don't have a garage or any kind of shop space here so I would have to work in the dirt. (long story).
Funny as it seem I wouldn't mind driving a 43 year old truck. I would fit in better with the locals for sure.
Anyone else considering parting with their RAM in these strange days?
