I just emptied my BT catch can for the first time yesterday. After about 1,500 miles it was close to 1/2 full of oil. It definitely does it's job just like the JLT catch can that I used on my previous 2011 Mustang.

Mine was about 1/8 full after 6,000 miles. I run 10w40 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter.

When you run the recommended oil 5w 20 it fills up quick. I don't cause it is too thin imo....

How can you run 10w40 in the hemi with MDS?! I can understand 5w20 and 5w30 but 10w40 is a massive jump. I run 20w50 in my 521 street rod but that's bc i built the motor loose so that reason and bc it's a summer only car.

No, if you drive like an old lady, it will fill up fast - the PCV system works under vacuum load. Less engine speed/throttle, more vacuum - more engine speed/throttle, less vacuum. I run my Charger HARD (autocross running and 'spirited' driving to work on the back roads) - I can go nearly 15K miles before my catch can is even 1/3 full. I don't have my can installed in the Ram yet, but because I get stuck in a lot of low speed driving during rushour, I'm willing to bet it will fill up faster than the car does.

One of the component manufacturers on LXF had this to say after they did a Mods Face-off a couple years ago, comparing different mods from one brand of manufacterer to another (CAIs, catch cans, exhaust systems, ect...):

as mexi said..... how much collects in the can is generally based on driving habits. the pcv valve is wide open at idle and lower cruising rpms. vacuum is highest in the manifold under these conditions and the pcv valve is pulled open. under wot, vacuum is lowest in manifold and the pcv valve closes thereby having less potential for catching anything.

I use Amsoil Signature 5w20 and have a catch can. After 5000kms it was about 1/4 full.

does anyone have good pictures of the mount or how they mounted it? I have an OCC I bought for my previous car that I never ended up installing that I could now use on this instead :)

I was talking to my dad about catch cans, and he's a farmer (so basically a self-taught mechanic).
He's saying that even though there is oil and moisture going through, it would just get burned off and not really affect anything at all, as long as you drive it at a normal run-temperature. He seems to think that these cans are a complete waste of money unless you're driving a real performance vehicle, or don't let the vehicle get up to temp. It'd be cool to do a real side-by-side comparison, like two identical vehicles doing the exact same runs for their whole life, but one with a catch can and one without.

I'm still convinced it's worth it to get these, and I can't wait to see the results of it in my truck.

Blackbetty: I have seen many posts throughout the net via forums of owners claiming---->Oil Viscosity has NO Effect on MDS what so ever.

I have a mixture of 0W-20 & 0W-40 in my 5.7L right now and it is smooth as silk and no issues... No CEL!

Granted it is not ALL 0W-40 but I don't feel like taking that chance of having issues with barely 6K miles on her.

I'd have to some digging, but there was a thread on the forums for my Charger where someone bought a 2005 Magnum and a 2006 Charger, both HEMIs and both brand new. One had a catch can on it and the other didn't (couldn't afford 2 of them because his wife had his balls in her purse :roflsquared: ). After nearly 30~40K miles on both cars, the blade on the throttle body on the one that had a CC was CLEAN while the one without the CC was covered in carbon.
