Catch Can Help/Question

I was just now emptying My Catch Can
And Truck Was Started and this was not the first time I Emptyed started
But this was the first time this problem happened
I unscrewed and about half way off it started to make a loud whistle noise
And I Emptyed and cleaned and whistle noise never went away
Went to put on catch can and as soon as the threads matched up the truck sucked air and died...noise went away after catch can was reinstalled

What is this....it did not happen to before before

You emptied it while the truck was running? I'm no expert but that sounds like it could be not only risky for the engine but potentially dangerous to you...that oil spray that the can collects is scalding hot!

Yea that happened to me last time i changed my oil with the engine running! Lol
Come on man, a little common sense will save you a lot of trouble. Do it with the ENGINE OFF.

As stated before, DANGEROUS move with oil spitting out and not to mention the heat

Lol in all seriousness @adams2013, I tried to empty my catch can like an hour or two after the engine had been shut off and the catch can was still too hot to touch barehanded...I hope your engine is running OK now and please be safe and just shut the engine off and let it cool before doing ANYTHING with that catch can!

I'm with the other guys, empty that can when the engine is cold.

The way I have mine set up, I have to manhandle it. When that sucker is hot, I get burned. lol

Yea truck restarted perfect and still runs perfect I did not touch bare handed I used a towl but what's freaking me out is I did that before with engine running and hot and that was first time it made that noise and shut off like that
But yea that's my last time doing that

Lol same here...I had one of those delayed reactions grabbing it to twist it off and realizing a couple of seconds later that my hand was being melted haha.

@adams2013...good to hear man, and smart move. You just reminded me I need to empty mine tomorrow morning!

While I agree its bad practice to empty it with the engine running, I empty my can with the engine nice and hot so the oil is most fluid and will drain well.
Here is where the Moroso can shines; I only have to twist the ball valve on the bottom, then once I have my jar under the bottom valve, open the handle for the ball valve and voila!

all that was a major loss of vacuum in the system. normal when you pull a vacuum line.

HELP

TB takes suction on catch can. The small amount of air avaialble from the PCV is not problem, but remove lower section of catch can and your TB sucks more air, engine leans out and cough-cough-cough dies.

Next potential error is to let your catch can over fill and have engine choke on pure slime suction.

I've not seen the BT/Diablo can side by side with a Moroso, but I believe the Moroso is larger. More room for sludge= less chance of overfilling= another Moroso advantage

For those who have not seen, this is where the Moroso mounts, much more convenient plus you get the drain valve, plus it's bigger. Win, win, win. Come on people, wake up!

It doesnt look larger from the pic's I've seen, (BT looks substantially deeper to my eyes)
but its hard to judge without side-by-side comparision

You could probably mount either can anywhere you please

Does the BT give you ample hose length and bracketry to do so?

From memory I had to cut off and throw away a pretty good size chunk of hose because it was too long
...but if you need more, that stuff is dirt cheap at any auto parts store if you don't want to use someones pick-your-part discounted used tubing for almost free.
The bracket can be mounted anywhere you want ...I mean really, it's a single bolt for anyone capable of turning a wrench , not rocket science

I can unscrew my BT can and dump the contents in less than a minute
How long does a can with a tube take to drain?

I ask because there's often 3/4" of sludge at the bottom of my can, especially in Winter
that would plug that tube in no time.

That looks like it would take hours to fully drain out of a tube if at all....it's like peanut butter.

Interesting, mine has always been the same as if you would have pulled the oil pan drain plug

I did some searching on several Hemi forums
and the conclusion was it was caused by condensation for those in cooler Winter conditions.

Like I said, it only happens in the Winter here
(where we can hit -30 to -40 for weeks on end)

I get very little of it during summer months

That sludge is very common in cooler climates as well for the southern guys that only make short trips without getting the truck up to operating temp. And like said, the BT can is actually built to mount to the fender on the hemi cars, but BT includes the Ram Z bracket for an easy and cleaner looking install. They do send the hoses long in case you choose not to use their bracket, but I have yet to see an issue with where the can mounts. I am 6'2", so even on the lifted trucks, I have no problem reaching the bottom of the BT can. Both cans do the job, but everyone has different tastes in style. I like the cleaner design of the BT and mouthing location as well. The Moroso is bulky and does not have the same clean lines as the BT, and I also am not a fan of where it mounts or having to run the longer hoses all the way to the radiator. It does the job though, so if it works for those of you that have them, then all is good. Its always nice to know that we have options in case you prefer 1 over the other.

Had ya ever considered selling both as they are so close in price and like you said, it's good to have options
