My truck is having charging issues.

Battery light came on and I had it tested. Said the alternator was bad. So I took it to the shop. They took the old one out and replaced it. Had it tested, it was bad.

Same day I got it back, light came on again. And again.

Took it back and they tested and looked at everything they could. Said it would have to go to the dealer because they didn’t have the equipment to test the pcm.

Dealer tested the charging system and said it was charging fine. They cleared the code and it was fine until today. It’s been about a week and a half since I got it back from the dealer.

What could be the problem? Is it charging fine and a bad reading/error, or could it be something else?

How old is your battery? 5 year life expectancy +/- a year.

When dealing with charging issues, battery should always be the number 1 suspect to check first. And if your coming up on 4 years, go ahead and replace it

How are they testing it?

A load test would be your best bet.

If they are just testing with a mulit-meter that won't give you the whole picture.

It could have a dead cell.

Took it back to the dealer. They finally figured it out.

when the alternator started going, it fried the pcm. They ordered it and I’m just waiting on them to get it fixed.
