My check engine light came on when oil needed to be changed. Oil was changed and it’s still on. Maybe just a coincidence with the oil, but just wondering what it could be. It’s a 2017 1500 and just hit 50,000 miles. It’s annoying because it disabled the remote start. Thanks for any input!

Go to Auto zone and get it scanned, something is going on, any recent engine noises?

No engine noises. But I’ll have it scanned. I was just curious in the mean time. Thank you!

You have to manually clear the oil light, it doesnt go away when you change oil.

Turn the key to run,but don't start the truck, and press the gas pedal to the floor 3 times with-in 10 seconds,it should reset the oil change reminder,if it's the oil change light that's on.
The gas pedal to the floor 3 times with key on,is pretty well an industry standard that works on most North American vehicles

Hmmm. Didn't know that. I reset it on the EVIC.
Two methods, same outcome.

It’s the check engine light, not the oil light

If you dont have a scan tool then take it to any auto parts store and have them scan it for the engine code. Wont be able to advise anything until you know what it is. Likely something simple but its just a guessing game and sometimes still is after the scan. As long as it is a steady and not flashing light should be ok to drive until fixed.

Since the OP has a 2017 this won't matter, but on vehicles still in warranty the PCM records each oil change mileage reset in the event log registry.

He said it was a check engine light and not oil reminder light so had nothing to do with oil change mileage. Why would a 2017 not matter if your just scanning for an engine code? Maybe Im not quite understanding myself what you mean.

Failing to do a reset before the 10,000 mile limit on an oil change could be a negative factor for a warranty claim, especially engine related. Since the OP has a 2017, it's already out of warranty and irrelevant.

The only relationship to the CEL was a question I thought someone asked IF the Check Engine Lamp was triggered by going over the 10,000 mile limit, and that doesn't really matter because the PCM records all oil change resets and mileage.

You can get a scan at any auto parts store. Buy a $25 OBD Scanner, and you will save yourself more than $25 worth of time

Check the gas cap ? Not sure if this applies , but you used to be able to hold down the trip set button & turn key to on (Not start) & all will reset. The gauges will sweep all lights will flash. And it’s reset. Takes about 5sec. Then turn off & then start back up should be clear. Like I said not sure this still goes for the newer cfdr. Buying a cheap scan tool is a good idea as well. Or the free scan at the local parts store. GL
