I have a 2014 Laramie red Ram with a hemi. Can a chip be installed simply by just loading it in, or do some other mods have to be done? I put my old superchip in my son’s 09, and it was easy. Will it be the same on a’14?

Not exactly sure which years it started, maybe starting 2013... but you need a PCM swap to achieve what you are trying to do. An "unlocked" PCM is needed. You can get modules like a Pulsar to intercept CAN signals prior to the PCM and manipulate certain engine controls but any real changes will need a PCM swap and tune or "chip" from what you are referring.

So to more directly answer your question... no.

Edit...
Just looked at the Diablo site. Looks like they have PCM swap packages starting in 2015. So you may be in luck and still able to tune without an unlocked PCM.

I suppose if you already have the tuner you could plug it in and try a few tweaks. Maybe set the electric fan to kick on at 180 degrees engine coolant temp or something and test it.

Yes, you can use a programmer directly plugged into your vehicle to add updated tunes. The inline "chips" have been replaced by programmers by Superchips, Diablosport and others.

You don't need a PCM swap or an unlocked PCM for your year truck. Any truck 2015 or newer does but not yours.

Do not plug in a programmer into your truck that was not specifically produced for your year, make and model ride.
