Hey guys, new on here so sorry if this is a repeat question (didn't find anything in the search)...I hate my chrome grill on my 2009 1500. Anyone try sanding it down and painting it? Did it work, and how long did it last? Thanks in advance!

I personally have left mine chrome, but you could pull it off and plasti-dip it. That would be the easiest and cheapest way to get rid of the chrome.

You're very welcome. Yea just google it. If you want, click on my build thread in my signature and you can see the pics I posted of how I plasti-dipped my badges. unbeleivably simple process and costs about $7 for a can.

The pics are on page 5 of my build thread!

Dont introduce him to the addiction

lol you're right, I should have added a warning label to that post. At least it's one of the cheaper mods you can do haha

I just looked it up...its like a plastic/rubber paint? Interesting, guess I have been living in a cave for awhile! Looks like the stuff on that infomercial where you can spray it on a screen then go for a rafting adventure haha

hahah I hadn't heard of it either until some guys here on the forum told me about it. And yea it sounds too good to be true, that's why it's addicting because once you plasti-dip one part of your truck, you want to do everything. It's really an awesome product and there are a ton of "how-to" videos for it on youtube that make it even easier to use.

So is the plasti dip pretty durable? If so then I have a HUGE list of stuff I can use it on! Thanks again guys. I am about to get some new wheels and if I paint the grill then I will get some pics up here some day soon

Yea the stuff is really durable. I haven't had any problems at all since I did mine. If you do the grill, it'll get some chips from rocks and what not over time, but all you have to do is just add a few more coats and it looks like new. From what I've read, it will last a few years without having to do any new coats. I say go for it!

"Flexi-seal" is the 'leak repair in a spray can' stuff. Yeah, I was wondering if that was similar material too but I've never seen anyone say that plasti-dip can seal leaks so I guess it's just cosmetic. Who knows?

Its not bad but if your picky its just better to get it painted to match your truck. Cost a bit more but I didnt like my chrome either.

I am going to give it a try this weekend...if I don't like then I can always clean it up and get it painted.

Yeah Chuck, going to give it a try. Think I should rough up the chrome a bit with scotchbrite or something?

Sweet! Just follow the directions on the can...make sure you clean up the chrome real good before you apply it. Roughing it up first shouldn't be necessary. I cleaned up my badges really well and the plasti-dip stuck just like magic. I didn't rough it up at all first.

And yeah, just like you said...best thing is, if you don't like it you can just peel it off.
