I understand the OP's frustration. Most owners would look at the oil filler cap and throw in whatever oil they could get there hands on in that weight. They assume it will be OK.

Unfortunately the manufacturers will use any excuse available to them to deny any warranty claims.

Great customer service is hard to find these days. Most companies treat you like they are doing you a favor by letting you spend your money with them.

I find it is a rare pleasure to come across a company or person that loves what they do and will go the extra mile to make their customers happy.

For what it’s worth, the dealer service department is not on your side if you only turn up when there’s a problem.

Ive read (and thought that way) as well.

But that's totally NOT how it should be. Its never been an issue with any of the other vehicles Ive owned (heck, I bought my Infiniti in VA, drove it back to CT and it ended at the dealer for warranty work the very next week....they never batted an eye. They even fought Nissan for brand new replacement parts instead of reman since the car was so young), but I guess I wouldn't put it past FCA.

Unless you are going to a small mom and pop place, I doubt they remember you. Do you really think they are going to turn down money? Also, if you don't have problems, what should you do?

I know, I know, you are going to say they will put people they know ahead of you. That is not true. The dealer I know, the service intake people change all the time and they put you in for service as you arrive.

Here's what I've seen happen. You make an appointment for a repair and you bring it in, then the parts dept says, they don't have the part. Now, I always ask to check that they have the part. No mystery there.

The point @Sandevino is making is the OP certainly didn’t take his maintenance business to the dealer. THEY didn’t put Mobil in his truck. He’s brought the dealer the result of doing business elsewhere, and wanted them to clean up a mess they didn’t make.

There’s two ways to be remembered as a customer; be the ass they hope to never see again or be the person that treats them as valued individuals. I tip people who go the extra mile. I tell their bosses when they do well. I send emails to people in management. I’m on a first name basis with the service writer, the parts guy, and the tech who I ask for. I know them, and they know me.

Agree, so? Dealers do clean up a mess they didn't make all the time.

@Travelin Ram you're correct in your assessment of my post.

@Zoe Saldana my experience with my dealer has been anything but what you and others have experienced, to a point.

Yes, I have scheduled appointments and had them broken. I have also shown up for repairs and parts weren’t there. I have even dropped my trucks off for days for simple repairs when they are backed up.

The difference is I built a rapport with them over the years by not being that guy. I keep bringing them my business and they keep my vehicle properly maintained.

Case in point...they provide a lifetime, unlimited mileage powertrain warranty through their dealership. The only caveat is they have to perform all the maintenance. In essence it isn’t free and likely I’ve paid more over the years than I should have but that’s not the point.

When my 1996 1500 with the 5.9 360 spun a main bearing at 400k, they replaced the entire engine, gave me a rental and paid for everything. My 2006 2500 Cummins **** the bed at 410k. Same story, new engine and no questions asked as they had all the maintenance records.

I buy my trucks from them exclusively and happily pay them to service them.

I’m guessing the dealer gets reimbursed from FCA for warranty work. I’ve never seen a dealership that would pass over making a buck.

Issue is I’m sure the OP has told them he always used the Mobil1 oil. Can’t go backwards from there or that would be fraud against FCA.

Unpopular sentiment, but this is exactly why I let the dealer perform oil changes and other power train maintenance. It might cost a bit more up front but it more than makes up for not having to deal with this.

^^^ BINGO. ^^^

Each time my Ram has had issues, 100% of the maintenance was done on time, by RAM, and in their computers.

Can't see Ram denying warranty claims when crap breaks. Thus far an engine, radio unit, cruise control, key fob... 142K on the truck. 60K on the engine.

One can use dealer services for all their repair and maintenance. The thing is all that higher costs add up.I could take all those high dollar dealer prices,go somewhere else and pay for a new motor when needed with the savings and not fool with the crooks.Dealers mark up parts so bad.And people want to believe that those parts are so much better. If they are then why do carmakers have so many recalls on those great parts that come on their vehicles? Breaking timing chains, burning alternators and bad waterpumps.Yep,gonna use dealer oem on my truck...they the best. Lol

My problem isnt paying the dealer to work on my stuff. My problem is that, in my experience, dealers are no better, and most times WORSE than a mom and pop shop or just me doing it myself.

Stupid stuff like grease marks on the interior after an oil change, to paying my Infiniti dealer $200 to troubleshoot a noise I was having only to be told "found nothing about your noise but here is $2k of unrelated work that you must have done right now", to my RAM dealer letting me sit in the waiting room for 3 hours while they troubleshot my whining A/C compressor, even though the truck never moved in the parking lot (I could see it from the waiting room)......

I just dont trust em.

Wow. This is an interesting topic. I use Mobile 1, didn't know there were issues. Also what is the % of idle hours that they think are too much?

Cant be trusted.Had a new truck with a leaky steering box.Sit on their lot over a week to be told it was ready.Got there and the invoice said inspected and all okay.I made a fuss to get it fixed,it wasnt draining fluid everywhere, but it kept a drip and grease all over the gearbox. If not under warranty I wonder how eager they would have been to fix it and hit me up for a bunch of other stuff.Yet they'll tell you they're the #1 service dept in the state.I told them I wouldnt care to see the worst one then.

Yes, dealers get paid from FCA for the warranty work, but it’s much less than getting paid if it was a customer pay job.

FCA can also charge back the dealer at any time if they review a repair and something doesn’t line up. FCA will try to find anything possible to charge back a dealer. We once had a 10k job charged back because a $5 clamp wasn’t billed on the work order.
