Ram couldn't of put the oil filter in a worse position than they did really. It's like they wanted to see how dirty one could get just trying to remove that oil filter. I bet many of them laugh at the complaints they have gotten throughout the years having the worse placement probably ever.

With that said having a oil change come up I wanted to see your recommended method of not spilling a single drop. I did get the Fumoto drain valve and am looking forward to that. From what I have seen there is a couple methods as far as removing that dreaded filter goes.

1. A couple quart ziplock baggies. Simply first loosen filter then put baggie around and loosen more so oil starts draining in baggie. Seems this is still kind of a PITA because hard to angle that filter at all and still seems to spill a little oil?

2. From what I can see best method is that XL Oil Udder. Have any of you used that for our particular 4th gen RAM's and does that truly do the trick?

My 2020 Power wagon with 6.4 has a simple filter location and RAM put in a plastic funnel. One of the easiest out there.

I use the gallon zip lock bag method. Loosen the filter, slip bag over the filter and unscrew. Let the filter drop into the bag and hang there a minute to let the residual drain from the adapter then zip the bag. Takes me about 20 minutes to complete the entire oil change in my driveway. I remember working on early 2000's Ford trucks. They had a nice plastic drain shoot over the front differential. The problem with that was when you'd unscrew the filter it would drain down the back side of the shoot lol.

Of course, "easy to get to" is subjective. But Every 4th and 5th gen Hemi I've owned had the oil filter located in a spot that's not easy to get to IMHO. Apparently I'm not alone in that opinion. Maybe if I had the truck on a lift it would be easier to get to, but I still wouldn't classify it as easy to get to LOL. Glad you don't consider it an issue.

They did a little. When I had my 2010 and 2015 (both 4x4), I could put a quart sized paint mixing cup under the filter and it was really easy and no mess. My 2018 has a block between the filter and the engine block (to heat up the oil using coolant?) that makes it hard to get anything under it. The bag method gets mixed results for me.

What kit did you go with? Did you lose oil pressure?
I didn't use a kit, I used parts from Improved Racing and made up the AN hoses. But the PacBrake kit that's out now I would absolutely do that if I was in the market.

I lost a small amount of oil pressure, but that's my own fault as I had been running too small of an oil filter before, so my numbers were untrustworthy.

Here's mine:

It’s to heat the oil faster and cool it as well if you are towing or anything but it’s useless for cooling as it’s very small. . I just removed mine from my 2017 and oil pressure went up by 2psi. Oil temp warm is down by 10°f as well.

I installed a kit originally from transdapt and switched over to the improved racing kit when I removed the heater assembly.

Living here in the salt belt, I take lemons and make lemonade: I wipe off the used oil that runs all over the PS unit and use that to wipe down the frame and undercarriage while I'm under there a rust preventative.

My truck is a Pentastar so I have the cartridge on top BUT! I change the oil on my company car and my moms and a couple friends. My favorite is... a Newks Eatery plastic cup. You get them free and they're perfect to slide over and soft enough to grip. Once I use my hand to break loose the filter, I slide the cup on, squeeze and twist until it comes off.

Nicely done. What did you do with the coolant hoses? Just connect them together?
