Gotta a 94 Ram 2500 4x4 with the 5.9 gas. Has the NV 4500 5 speed tranny. This is my first dodge I've owned, certainly not the first I've used or worked on, but they we're all 12 valve cummins (what I desperately wish I had) Now to me it seems to have a weak clutch (weak to me means I almost have to fully release it before the truck begins to pull) and it groans a bit when I pull off in 2nd or reverse unless I ease off the clutch with minimal acceleration on the gas. Past two days, when I shift up and begin accelerating again it's RPMs climb a bit before it actually starts accelerating. It doesn't loose any moment, just doesn't gain any more. Mainly does it in 5th gear. If I'm doing 70 and romp a bit to pass someone it'll just keep going 70 and simply raise RPM, it has the feel of like the clutch ain't fully released, almost like I'm riding it a bit. Is this the clutch and pressure plate being worn out? or do I have tranny issues? It doesn't whine or chatter any at all, so figure it must be the clutch.
Thanks

Definitely the clutch. Manuals don't slip, they grind. If you can't adjust it any more, may be time to do the clutch job.

Sorry for the slow response. I didn't see you take a number when you walked in.

+1 Your clutch is worn out. Tranny is fine.

Though it sounds odd, when clutches go, they first develop noticeable slip in the higher gears, rather than the lower ones. This, because there is more load on the clutch as it nears it's 1:1 ratio, meaning the gear reduction of the lower gears helps hide and prevent the slip due to less stress being put on the drivetrain with out the mechanical advantage provided by the first few gears.

Hope that makes sense. End result: Clutch is toast. Start looking for parts.
