I'd like to start by saying this is my first post and I love this forum almost as much as I love my Ram.

So I redoing everything audio and im curious as to how you guys are running your components. I'm going to run 6.5 components and I don't know if I should put the tweeters in the door or the dash. What are you guys doing?

I've read some forums of members saying they replaced the 3.5 in the dash with a better 3.5, did you put components and tweets in the door? Did you power the 3.5 with the H/U? Or did you put the component mid bass and crossover in the door and associated tweets in the dash?

I haven't done anything yet but just to throw my ideas of the rest of my system out there I'm going to fit a Nexus 7 tablet in the dash in front of a Sony MEX-gs600bt. Going to use the Sony app and the remote/ir repeater to control the H/U. Some type of high end components in the front (probably focal or hertz) leaving factory 6x9's in the back until they blow. For the amp I plan to run the JL Audio HD900/5 and for subs I would like to run 2 JL Audio 10w3v3-4. I know a lot of you agree that other subs are better but jl, alpine, and RF are all I've had the chance to listen to in person. If anything sounds better and can run in a small space with little power, I'd love to know but honestly I'm tired of racking my brain over what the "perfect daily driver/sq sub" is.

The box I plan to build myself thanks to myoung84 and his thread http://www.ramforum.com/f51/custom_fiberglass_sub_box-3235/

I also plan to install the H/U and Nexus 7 myself even though I've never done anything like this before . I'll be sure to start a thread with pics as soon as I get it started. Just waiting on the Nexus 7 dock to come out and I'll get it going.

Sorry for the long post, guess I was excited to make my first one after reading TONS of other post.

I'd swap those W3's for a single 10W6v2 in a small sealed enclosure. If you want SQ go for the SQ sub....the W3's are ok but not in the same league as the W6.
For the components run the mid in the door and the tweeter you need to play with and decide where you like it best. Temporarily mount it in various places at various angles until you figure out where it sounds the best.
There is no hard rule for a tweeter....they all have different on or off-axis response so you'll have to experiment before final mounting.

Ditch the rear speakers completely. If you really want a true SQ system concentrate your efforts on the front. Live concerts don't have people playing behind you.

Some of the best money you'll spend will be on sound deadening and dampening...how far you take it will be dictated by how much of a true SQ set-up you want. Be honest with yourself about what you want and how far you're willing to go to achieve it.

That's actually not a bad idea for the sub. I was originally thinking of a 1 sub setup but got talked out of it by cartoys. Now that I've decided to do it all myself, I'm assuming it'll be a lot easier to build a glass box for one instead of two. That 500 watts from the amp should push it pretty good too.

JL calls for .55 for a sealed box. If my box ends up being closer to .65ish, is that bad? Should I shoot to get as close to .55 as possible?

I'm keeping the factory rears so I might as well keep them in, everyone says I'll need some fill back there.

Definitely going for SQ more than anything. Obviously I want some bass but I don't need people to hear me coming from miles.

Just out of curiosity UNBROKEN, where do you have your tweeters mounted?

Seriously great reply, bro. I would suggest trying the system with and without rear fill once everything else is in place though- maybe he'd prefer it.

Hey Bru- are you taking the volume of the sub itself into account when you calculate the interior volume of the box? Small boxes can be tricky because a small difference is a relatively large correction factor; keep it as close as you can. If a prefab box really is too big you could always glue in a scrap piece of 2x4 to suck up some volume.

Yup I've seen that setup before. So did you leave the 3.5 in tweeters in the dash? How does it sound with the tweeters in the door?

Hey audio1der, thanks for the heads up man on the sub fill. I feel like an idiot because it seems so simple now but no I did not consider the sub when thinking of air space haha.

The thing I've been basing it off of is basically the fact that most of the prefab boxes have right around .65 in that under seat location.

Good stuff here. I'm still trying to figure out if i should do 6x9 or 6 1/2" components (like above) for the doors. I think that i'm gonna keep the dash speakers, and eventually replace them, but definately not remove them.. More speakers would be better in this senerio.

I'm starting my project slow (because of money issues) but so far i replaced my head unit, so it's a good start. then replace all of the speakers on the doors and dash, then maybe one sub under one of the seat in my QC. i would love to put in 2 -12 inch subs, but i need the room for cables and stuff under the other seat. I love daggertats pic.

I was playing around with my tweets. They sounded horrible in the dash. They were much better in the sail panel. That's where I plan to mount them permanently. I replaced all my dash speakers, and the sound is more clear. However, there's way too many highs, and the sound coming from the dash is too loud. You can hardly hear the mids in the doors. I'm going to get rid of the corner dash speakers as well. Alpine really needs to go back to the drawing board with this system.

I had lots of fun installing my setup. It's a good learning experience and you know where everything is for tweeking and repairs.

I replaced my dash speakers with 4". I would not suggest this. They feed from the dash and sound perfect (less power from the dash vs amp to doors,) but it was a pain to install them.

I am not for component speakers. They are a huge cost vs being effective and you have to tweek them. But, if you enjoy that, then go for them. I get just the right bounce off the front windshield.

I tried to leave everything looking stock and went with one amp. Every upgrade I did required tweeking. I can say that now it is pretty much exactly what I want. The custom fiberglass box made the bass perfect and was the only thing I did not do myself.

yep, left the 3.5 in the dash. ill replace em with something better eventually. the tweeters i have can actaully be aimed upward or in any direction you want them. in my opinion they sound great . i had a tacoma that had the tweeters up high in the door and i didnt care for it. seemed like they were all you heard.

Honestly....I haven't gotten into the install in this truck yet. I have everything sitting here just haven't felt like taking the interior apart for the several weeks it'll take with the limited time I have to work on it.
I'm using the Focal 165KRX3 set in this truck...it'll be my second install with those drivers. In my last truck I wound up with the 3" mid and tweeter in custom a-pillars after auditioning them for months in multiple locations. I'm leaning towards doing the same thing but I'll have to audition them all over since it's a whole new truck. I'm using my go-to sub again....a JL 12W6v2 and driving everything with a pair of Mosconi AS 200.4's. Processing is a Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.3
It's all sitting here plus the wiring, Dynamat, CCF and MLV.....I just have to get into the right mood to install it some day.

Yea im with you Wade, I know it'll be time consuming but man it'll be so much fun (I hope haha). The head unit has officially been ordered along with the amp (jl hd900/5) and sub (jl 10W6v2 4ohm).

I'm going to get started on the fiberglass box on Tuesday and can't wait.

Oh nice, that tweeter pointing sounds perfect. Do they point because of the speaker or because the adapter allows them to? Either way, what brand are they both?

Yea im leaning heavily towards the focal p165v15, they sounded amazing in the store. Not too high and no muddled bass either. Just a very pure and even sounding speaker for lack of a better term. I guess I could go a little more expensive now that I'm doing a self install so maybe i should go back to the drawing board on that.

So you can get that 12 to fit huh? I wanted to pull the trigger on the 12w6 but stuck with the 10 because jl made it work with the stealth box.

Yea....right between the seats. Mine is a single cab...there's a remarkable amount of room to work with back there.
I'm a huge Focal fan....it's all I've run for at least 10 years now. If you have it in your budget you'll be hard pressed to find anything as nice as the KRX2 set...it's around $900 or so for the set. The 3 ways I use are closer to 2 grand....but if you really want it all it's worth it.
I considered using the Utopia 3 ways this time but I honestly couldn't tell enough difference between them and the KRX3's to justify the additional cost. I listened to both in Focal sponsored competition cars.

the adapter that holds them allows them to swivel. they are infinity reference 6500 cx. they cost 249. from crutchfield . on cyber monday they ran a buy one get one free sale on them so i also have these in the side wall behind the seats.probably wouldnt have bought these but i couldnt pass up 2 sets for 249.
