Console swap

It was pretty easy to do, took about 1.5 hours.

Did you have the dreaded round knob on dash shifter to start with?? if so what did you need to make the switch? I'm considering this myself have line on nice console with shifter.

He probably had the column shifter if he had his current truck when he made this thread. I believe the dial shifter would indicate the 8 speed transmission, which was not available with the 2500 6.4 for 2018. Nice looking setup, have had both the console with shifter and the console with dial and like them each for their own reasons. Liked having a good "old fashioned" shifter, but without it you do have much more space.

Thanks I do have a 2017 1500 5.7hemi with the 8 speed I thought it would be awesome to change over to the console shifter because I found a complete console with shifter and dash bezel for a sweet price. I have been wanting to put a center console in the truck for a while now was hoping to find someone in my area that wants to swap for a jump seat but so far no luck.

Any of the console shifters in a Ram truck up till now have been for a mechanically shifted transmission, the 8spd trans is electronically shifted.
Probably your best bet to get a console shifter for an 8 spd in a Ram would be to try using one out of a Jeep that uses the same trans. There may be some compatibility issues as the two vehicles may not use the same BCM.
Another option would be to R&D some way for the mechanical shifter to turn a shift dial correctly.

Check www.car-part.com for a console assembly.

Right now I have cheap seat covers and no power or heated seats.

That might be something to look into but was really just asking because I found a really good deal on a console that had the shifter, but turns out it's not really compatible with the electronically controlled 8speed trans. Oh well was worth checking into.

That console will work for you, just get a new upper tray that doesn’t have the shifter, then list the shifter on eBay. The rest of the console is the same. unless you were looking to move the shifter.

I thought if the shifter would work, that it would be something different than most. But if the console will work I'll have to see what the cost of the upper tray is to eliminate the shifter vs. a console already set without. Thanks for the input.

That console will work for you, just get a new upper tray that doesn’t have the shifter, then list the shifter on eBay. The rest of the console is the same. unless you were looking to move the shifter.

Looks great, a lot of people don't like the space the shifter takes up. I don't see it as an issue, I have the shifter also and that little bit of space mine takes up doesn't bother me!

i am finding kits for a 68rfe just need to know if that kit will work w a 66rfe
