This is may be a stupid question, but does anyone know the procedure for changing the coolant temp sensor on a 6.4L? The reason I ask is because I had mine done a few weeks ago and just today noticed the coolant level in the bottle is below Min, and it's always between Min and Max. Just wondering if possibly during the sensor change some coolant was lost and not replaced? If not- may have a leak somewhere that I can't seem to see anywhere.

Yes, a good gallon or so will drain when removing your t-stat housing.

Ok, thanks! Didn't realize they had to remove the t-stat housing to change that sensor.

Whoa, hey sorry I miss read. I don't think housing has to be removed for the coolant temp sensor, my bad. Apologies. I have my old one sitting in garage, sensor is a thermocouple right down into the housing but it would be very out of sorts to have it pull the housing to change the sensor. I will dble check what Im saying, sorry bout that again.

You should still lose abit of coolant with a T-Stat change. Top it off and keep a eye on it to see if it drops again.

Disclaimer: I have never replaced one in a 6.4 [emoji16] However, I have done dozens in other vehicles and they all threaded right Into a coolant passage. So when pulled there will most likely be some loss of coolant. Even when changed at a shop, sometimes an air pocket can get in that just takes some driving to get out. They probably had it filled and after some miles, burped a little air from the sensor change and the level dropped some. Not a big deal as long as it's not actually leaking. Just top it off and keep an eye on it.

It may also have had a small air pocket in it from opening the system that has burped itself...
